Lakeland, FL - May 12th - May 15th the last four teams left in Florida Junior College (D1) baseball went head to head to crown a State Champion. Assistant Scouting Director Cayden Hatcher was in attendance throughout and saw tons of talent. Take a look at the notes and coverage from the event on players who caught my eye.

(Rs.) Fr. Caleb Cali, 3B, Uncommitted

FCSAA Player of the Year batted just north of .500 for the tournament which seems normal as Cali has a .440 batting average heading into the JUCO World Series. What is even crazier is Caleb Cali is uncommitted. In the box Cali looks very comfortable, everything is timed up and works in rhythm, gets extension on contact, and a clean lower half finish. A lot of hitterish actions for Cali but what also stood out was the big-time playmaking ability at the hot corner which prevented a handful of runs from scoring with hard shots to the third baseline.

(Fr.) Jose Hernandez, CF

Hernandez reminded me a lot of Orbeta from last year's Miami-Dade club when it came to postseason production and somehow always being a problem for opposing arms. In game one v. Central Florida, Hernandez turned in a huge five RBI performance and a big-time home run over the left-field foul pole. At 6-foot-2 with long levers, Hernandez should be on the four-year school’s follow list next spring as he has the makings of an impact bat and everyday center fielder.

Romeo Sanabria, C, Florida International University

Sanabria had a big spring offensively batting .400 on the year. Batting .583 in the tournament was pretty impressive to watch for Sanabria because he did this all while catching every pitch for Indian River and against high-end arms. At the plate, works direct to the baseball and keeps the hands inside. Seems to be on time consistently and the numbers show.

(Fr.) Cam Collier, 3B

The projected first-rounder did not light up the box scores but he was still a hard out in the Chipola lineup. Worked a lot of deep counts and waited for his pitch, one of his at-bats went over ten pitches with a full count battle. The hands are electric, turned on Fastballs inside, and took down the line. Collier flashed some leather at third base as well making a few slow roller plays and throwing across the body, which looked very clean. Look for Collier’s name on Day 1 of this year's draft.
