2019 RHP Dylan Simmons from Trinity Christian in Jacksonville, Florida is a very young arm that showed well at the Florida Underclass Games. He worked out as a catcher and a pitcher. While he certainly showed arm strength from behind the dish and swung the bat really well with some power, he stood out on the mound. His fast ball was up to 84 mph with a loose live arm to go with it. The breaking stuff had good rotation but a bit soft. This, after working out as a catcher.
This past weekend, Dylan stepped it up a notch as he was working out as a pitcher for his travel team tryout. At 6-foot-2, 185 pounds, he is a tall loose lean athletic body with a loose live arm with very good arm speed at a high ¾ arm slot. His fast ball was getting up to 87 mph and pitching at 85-86 mph. The slider was 75-76 mph with a short 3/4 break. The curve ball was 70-71 mph. It had a bigger 3/4 break with depth. Both breaking balls had good rotation and will be average ML pitches in the future. The change up is still a work in progress at 74 mph. He drops his arm slot to throw it. A very good looking young arm that will continue to improve with physical maturity. Colleges will begin to recruit him soon.
