It took until the 12^th inning of the regional quarterfinal between Dr. Phillips HS and Lake Brantley HS to be decided, but the visiting Dr. Phillips Panthers outlasted the Lake Brantley Patriots 7-2 in a tightly contested matchup to advance to the next round.

2018 RHP Cort Roedig (Dr. Phillips HS, FL) started for the Panthers and was lights out, as he carried a no-hitter deep into the game and put the pressure on the Patriots lineup. The Georgia Tech recruit worked with a quick pace and featured a fastball mostly in the 87-90 mph range, touching 91 while also mixing in a tight slider with depth at 75-77 mph.

The Panthers gave Roedig an early lead in the top of the second as they scored their first run on an error in the field, followed by an RBI single by 2019 OF James Hurst (Dr. Phillips HS, FL) to make it 2-0. Roedig continued to cruise until the fifth inning, when the Patriots took advantage of two costly errors in the field, plating two runs and tying things up 2-2. Each team then went back and forth for the next six innings, trying to push a run across, but both bullpens seemed to have an answer for the opposing lineup.

In the top of the 12^th inning the Panthers finally broke through, as they got their leadoff man on via a dropped third strike to start the inning. After back-to-back singles by 2020 OF Brandon Fields (Dr. Phillips HS, FL) and 2018 SS August Haymaker (Dr. Phillips HS, FL) a fielder’s choice, a hit by pitch, followed by two more fielder’s choices, and an error pushed across five runs. Suddenly, the Panthers had a commanding 7-2 lead.

The Patriots tried to put a rally together as the first two batters in the bottom of the 12^th reached on back-to-back singles, but the next three batters went down in order as 2019 LHP Mitchell Stockwell (Dr. Phillips HS, FL) earned the win and preserved the 7-2 victory for the visiting Panthers.

Cort Roedig, RHP, Dr. Phillips HS, FL (2018)
Georgia Tech recruit. Currently stands at 6-foot-2, 200 pounds with a projectable, athletic frame and a strong lower half. Quick, clean arm action. Works with an up tempo pace, throws a high percentage of first pitch strikes. Fastball mostly sat in the 87-90 mph range, touching 91 a few times. Also mixed in a tight slider that showed depth at 75-77 mph, throwing it for strikes. Took a no-hitter late into the game. Impressive showing on the mound. 

Brandon Fields, OF, Dr. Phillips HS, FL (2020)
Uncommitted. Currently stands at 6-foot, 200 pounds with a physical, athletic frame and a strong lower half. Extremely athletic with with above average bat speed at the plate. The hands are quick and when he is on time and in rhythm, the ball jumps off the bat. Can still cut himself off at times, be out in front but when he stays back and utilizes his strong lower half, he shows pull side power. Above average runner, gets good jumps and shows the ability to kick it into the next gear around the base paths. The raw tools are there. Also a standout running back with multiple offers from perennial D1 schools.  

Isaac Nunez, SS, Lake Brantley HS, FL (2019)
Florida recruit. Currently stands at 6-foot, 175 pounds with strength throughout and a physical lower half. Shows a natural feel for the game with high baseball IQ. DHed this game and didn’t record a hit, but showed patience and present bat speed at the plate. Works the count and looks for something to drive. Advanced baserunner, looks to take advantage of slower developing plays in the field. High follow.
