Doral Homers Twice in 8-5 Win over No 19 Monsignor Pace
March 21, 2018
Victor Mederos would dominate early for No 19 Monsignor Pace. The 2020 Miami commit struck out the side in the first inning, working 92-93 touching 94 mph with the fastball and showing a 80-82 mph slider. Despite the dominance in the first, Mederos would struggle with command in the second. After allowing a pair of walks, 2020 Dominic Pitelli would triple off of the net in right field, driving in two and giving Doral the early 2-0 in the second. Mederos would return in the third, walking three and striking out three before exiting the game.
Another 2020 Miami commit would replace Mederos in Nicholas Regalado, despite showing a fastball working 88-89 mph with the fastball, the pitch was up in the zone and would allow a pair of home runs to Kevin Figueroa and Lency Delgado, giving Doral a 7-0 lead heading into the fifth.
Pace, a team with seven of its starting nine players in the lineup committed, would not go down quietly. A leadoff double by Michael Machin in the fifth, follow by a walk and singles from Darian Fumero and MC Sagro would make the score 7-3. A single from Michael Montes would have runners on first and third for Kenny Gonzalez, who would drive a fastball over the net in right-center field for a three run home run.
Doral would walk the bases loaded, before striking out Albert Hernandez to end the fifth inning. Doral would then add a run in the sixth and hold Pace scoreless to hold onto a big 8-5 win over the No 19 team in this week’s Power25.
