Dees, Walker Lead Palm Harbor over Steinbrenner

Thursday night featured a matchup between Steinbrenner and Palm Harbor that turned into a strong pitching matchup between two sophomores. Getting the start for Steinbrenner was FSU recruit Austin Liss. Liss battled for 5 strong innings striking out 9 while allowing 4 runs (1 earned). He sat primarily 88-90 with his fastball and showcased an above average slider at 2700+ rpm that generated plenty of swings and misses.

On the other side, uncommitted Brandon Dees got the start for Palm Harbor. The right hander got up to 91 mph in the first inning but sat primarily at 87-89 mph. Dees worked 5.2 innings allowing 2 runs while striking out 3.

Palm Harbor got the scoring going early with a run in the first. Kasey Mink led the game off with a walk and Alex Walker drove him in on an RBI single. The Hurricanes added another in the 4th as Jackson Withrow doubled off the 3rd base bag and into left field.

In the 5th, Palm Harbor got on the board again. Alex Walker drove a double to left which led to 2 runs scoring on wild pitches and gave Palm Harbor a 4-0 lead.

Steinbrenner was able to get on the board in the 6th inning. RBI singles from Dominic Sardegna and Noah Fowler cut the deficit in half.

In the bottom of the 7th, Steinbrenner looked to mount a comeback. 2 walks and a stolen base put the tying runs on base but were left stranded as Palm Harbor held on to win 4-2.
