Cannon, Callihan Combine to Shutout No. 25 Mosley

JACKSONVILLE, FL - Cutter Cannon and Tyler Callihan (South Carolina recruit) tossed a combine shutout and Tucker Talbott (Florida recruit) added a three hit performance at the plate as No. 10 Providence defeated No. 25 Mosley 3-0 on Thursday morning.
For five innings, Providence starting pitcher Cutter Cannon danced around the Mosley Dolphin lineup. Cannon used command of his fastball and a sweeping breaking ball to keep the Dolphins guessing on their front foot. The senior allowed five hits over five shutout innings, while striking out nine and walking none.
Opposite of Cannon was well known southpaw, LHP Ryan Pettys (Florida State recruit). Pettys gave everything he had over a five inning appearance, allowing three runs on four hits, while striking out 10 and walking five. He shut down the Providence offense for the first three innings, blowing his 91 mph fastball by opposing batters .

Cracks in the armor started to appear in the fourth inning when the Stallions loaded the bases with no outs. However, Pettys was able to regain his composure on the mound and deliver three straight punchouts to end the inning.
The fifth inning, Providence was finally able to break Pettys. The inning began with Cannon reaching base on a throwing error by the shortstop. Then a walk to Callihan two batters later made it first and second one out. Pettys was able to get a flyout on the next batter, but that still left Talbott up to bat. Already with two extra base hits off Pettys, Mosley elected to pitch to the future Gator.

Talbott squared a ball up into the outfield, scoring Cannon and breaking the deadlock. The Stallions were not done either. Sophomore Sam Gonzalez connected on one for a two run double, making it 3-0 Providence.
With the lead in-hand, the ball was turned over to Callihan to finish the game. Working up to 90 mph with his fastball, Callihan cruised through the sixth inning. He created a little bit of a scare in the seventh, allowing the first two men on. In true Callihan fashion though, he retired the next three batters, preserving the 3-0 victory.
