2024 FL Preseason Classic/Open: Day 1 Recap

The 2024 Prep Baseball Florida Preseason Classic and Preseason Open kicked off Tuesday, February 13 at Lawnwood Baseball Complex in Fort Pierce, Florida. Tuesday featured two games on the Preseason Classic side as well as two games on the Preseason Open side.
American Heritage vs Spruce Creek
American Heritage took on Spruce Creek in the 4:00 game. It was a scoreless game until Spruce Creek took the lead in the fourth inning when Shane Lavin singled, scoring one run. Garrett Grant pitched well, only giving up one hit and no runs over three innings.
On the other hand, Antonio Turco-Rivas from American Heritage took the loss as the starting pitcher but still had a strong outing. He went four innings, giving up one run on three hits, while striking out three and walking three.
Andrew Ortiz and Noah Ditas were the only players from American Heritage to collect hits in the game.
Spruce’s Lucas Badalato had a great game at the plate, leading the team with two hits in three at-bats. Julian Braga also contributed with two walks. Spruce Creek showed patience at the plate, collecting a total of nine walks in the game.
Additionally, Spruce Creek had a strong presence on the base paths, stealing four bases throughout the game. Spruce Creek would go on to win 4-0 over American Heritage.
Jensen Beach vs Trinity Christian Academy (LW)
On the Preseason Open side, Jensen Beach took on Trinity Christian Academy where they came out on top 17-2.
In the second inning, they scored 10 runs, thanks to contributions from Noah Ehlers, Dylan Fatovich, Dominic Donatucci, Cian Copeland, Connor Cantillo, Ty Velardo, Jake Figman, and Hudson Gardiner. They continued to add to their lead in the third inning with runs scored by Cantillo and Will Rader.
Vincent Cooke pitched well for the Falcons, giving up no hits and no runs over two and one-third innings.
Overall, Jensen Beach had a strong offensive performance, with hits from Crisjen Brancaccio, Figman, Rader, Tanner Hughes, Velardo, and Cantillo. Ehlers led the team with four walks, and the team had a total of 14 walks in the game.
David Gonzalez and Micah Herring had hits for Trinity Christian, with Gonzalez collecting the only RBI.
Doral Academy vs Miami Christian
Doral Academy took on Miami Christian in the night-cap at the Preseason Classic. Miami Christian would come out on top with a 8-3 victory. Miami Christian got the scoring started in the first on a wild pitch and Willy Mendez single. They added three more in the third with an Alejandro Abreut sac fly and Dylan Prince two run single.
Jeffred Fermin got the start for Miami Christian and was dominant. Nine strikeouts over four shutout innings. In the fifth, Doral Academy was able to get three runs across the board. Tyler Rodriguez singled in the team’s first run.
Willy Mendez collected his second hit of the game later and drove in two more runs to put the score at 8-3 where it would finish.
Sebring vs John Carroll
The Preseason Open night-cap saw Sebring defeat John Carroll 16-3. Dalton Todd, Cole Travers, and Blayne Humphrey each collected three RBIs. Travers and George Sebring both had multi hit games.
Dalton Todd got the start for Sebring with four strikeouts in two innings. Chase Vaughn, Rhett Vaughn, and Brody Hall also collected hits for Sebring.
For John Carroll, Cameron Hall led the team with two hits and three RBIs. Kaiden Jones also collected a hit for the Rams.
