2022 PBR Florida Player of the Year: Bradley Hodges

After a strong 2022 high school baseball season, Prep Baseball Report has announced its Player of the Year in each state. Last year, Westminster Christian's Sal Stewart took home the honors of PBR Florida Player of the Year. This year, the honor goes to 2022 LHP/OF Bradley Hodges.
2022 PBR Florida Player of the Year
2022 LHP/1B Bradley Hodges is the 2022 PBR Florida Player of the Year. Hodges, a Virginia recruit, attends St. Johns Country Day School in Orange Park, FL. Hodges led the Spartans on the mound and at the plate to a 23-5 record in 2022 and made it all the way to the Regional Finals. Offensively, Hodges batted .516 with 47 hits, 32 RBI, 11 doubles, and 9 homeruns. On the mound, he went 10-0 with a 1.28 ERA and 114 strikeouts in 60 innings pitched. Hodges sits 90-92 from the left side and is a name to watch in this coming Draft. The former PBR Future Gamer has a bright future ahead of him whether he is selected in the Draft or heads to Virginia next Fall.

Scouting Report
Virginia Commit, 6-foot-1, 185-pound solid athletic build. Solid above average on the mound, showed a ¾ arm angle and a long arm action with lightning arm speed. Drop-and-drive type pitcher who shows some effort. Has an athletic balance point and uphill shoulders. Lands square with a clean finish. Threw his fastball 87-89 mph and topped out at 90 mph; throws a heavy fastball with hard running action and command around the zone. (Max spin 2327; Avg 2221). Throws a tight curveball (69-73) that has swing and miss action and down in the zone control. (Max spin 2308; Avg 2246). Throws a sharp changeup (74-75) with fading action and in the zone control.
Committed to Virginia after the event. Two-way player with potential for that designation to stay with feel for an above average breaking ball on the mound and an advanced approach from the left side at the plate. 7.29 runner with high IQ on the basepaths. Medium build with broad shoulders. Contact-first approach with good plate discipline. Drew a couple of walks and had some long, hard-fought at bats. Short and compact to the ball with a level path. Uses short, toe-tap stride. Average defender with clean glove actions. On the mound, he sat 82-83 with feel for the 68-70 mph breaking ball with good depth. There’s room to add velo in the frame with some pitchability and above average secondary stuff. 75 arm velo from the OF, 84 mph exit velocity.
Athletic and lanky frame at 5-foot-10, 155 pounds with room for growth. Throws from the high ¾ arm slot with short loose arm action. Sits 81-82 from the left side with his fastball, 72-73 with his curveball with near fastball arm speed and average depth, 70-72 with changeup that has some sink. Commands the strike zone with all pitches and keeps the ball low. Balanced approach at the plate with a short stride and level bat path. Is a line drive style of hitter and has some rhythm in the swing with average bat speed with 81 exit velocity.
5-foot-10, 145-pound left-handed two-way prospect, athletic proportional build. Defensively, clean arm action, over-the-top slot, accurate with some carry. Plays through the ball, fluid footwork. Offensively, open setup, short stride, maintains good balance. Gap-to-gap type hitter, present bat speed. Ran a 7.40 60. On the mound, fastball worked 75-77. Curveball, 1/7 shape, 65-66. Changeup at 69.
