Game 1 vs Mid-Atlantic

The high schoolers kicked off their Futures Games falling to Mid-Atlantic 6-4. Alex Walsh, Logan Plasencia, and Sam Cole each went 2 innings a piece on the mound for Team FL. Walsh gave up 4 hits, 2 runs and struck out 3 in his outing. Walsh competed and attacked the zone with a loose, quick arm action. His fastball sat 85-87 mph and worked both sides of the plate and also flashed a projectable mid 70s breaking ball that earned him his fair share of swings and misses. Plasencia struggled with command a bit in his first inning but filled up the zone to finish strong only giving up 1 hit and 1 run. He powered the fastball by hitters at 88-91 mph, touching 92, with feel for a sharp, low 70s breaking ball that had some good depth at times.

Cole took the ball in the 5th working his 2 innings allowing 3 hits and 1 run while striking out 2. Cole consistently sat 87-88 with his FB and countered it with a 71-72 mph breaking ball, diving at the bottom of the zone.
Hayden Yost and Johnnie Lopez both lined RBI doubles down the RF line to get Florida on the board offensively. Marek Houston tacked on a single and sac fly and Schyler Arroyo also lined a single to left.

Game 2 vs Carolina

Team Florida fell to Carolina in Game 2 of the 2020 Futures Games by a score of 12-10. Offensively, the Florida boys were led by Matt Rose, (RBI 2B) Chris Roberts, (RBI 3B) and Michael Petit (Leadoff 3B). Nicholas Alonso and Ashton Wilson each added singles while Isaiah Myles and Marek Houston tacked on RBIs. Nolan Juvers took the bump first for Florida and ran into some trouble in the 1st before settling down and retiring the side in the 2nd. Ryan Slattery fared about the same, struggling a bit in his first inning of work before an efficient 4th inning to end his outing on a high note. Jack Bello, and Ethan Phillips each threw scoreless innings and Isaiah Myles threw an inning as well. Florida will round out this year's Futures Games facing off with Team Georgia today at 1:30 on Field 9.
