2019 Florida Diamond Club: Friday Quick Hits
October 5, 2019
LAKELAND, FL—With the top prospects from Florida and Puerto Rico gather at Joker Marchant Stadium, spring training home of the Detroit Tigers, The Florida Diamond Club Showcase is a must see event for scouts. Things kicked off Friday night with a couple rounds of batting practice and a 10-inning game between the West and South. Our PBR Florida staff will have full reports on each team following the event, but here are a few highlights from the first day of action…
+ RHP Camden Minacci (Tampa Jesuit HS, FL), a Wake Forest recruit, was one of the clear standouts, as he cruised through two perfect innings and struck out five of the six batters he faced. Working with a classic overhead windup, he sat 89-91 mph with his fastball and mixed in a slider that flashed sharp bite at 77-79. He struck out the first two batters he faced on a fastball and slider respectively before getting OF Enrique Bradfield Jr. (American Heritage Plantation HS, FL) to ground out. In his second inning, facing the heart of the South’s order, he struck out the side on fastballs up to 92-93.

+ Bradfield led off for the South squad and collected a hit, walk and run scored. He grounded out in his first two at-bats, getting down the line in 4.1 seconds. He then dropped down a bunt and beat it out with a 3.6. Bradfield is a good athlete with long, easy strides that make him a nuisance on the bases and above average defender in center field.
+ C Jackson Miller (JW Mitchell HS, FL) has static hands at the plate and an uphill path. He had just one hit on the night, but his outs were loud as he consistently found the barrel.

+ IF Steven Ondina (International Baseball Academy, PR) is a treat to watch on defense with his quick, easy hands. During infield/outfield, he likes to wind up to show off his arm strength, which is clearly above average or better. He made an impressive play at second base in the last inning, ranging to his glove side and spinning to start a double play turn. He had a base hit in two at-bats. There is some length to his swing, but it’s a quick bat and he takes a line drive path.
Nice play by Steven Ondina do get the double play started in our last inning of Day 1 at @FLdiamondclub. #MLBDraft pic.twitter.com/dS6zFJEvbD

+ IF Sammy Infante (Monsignor Pace HS, FL) stood out defensively. The Miami recruit made a nice backhanded play deep behind third base and ripped a strong throw across the diamond for an out.
We’re back at it Saturday with two more games, including our first look at the East and North teams.
