The 2018 Future Games is the largest uncommitted event in the country, with over 400 players and 253 coaches and scouts in attendance. The event consists of a workout day and three games. Team Florida played three games and we will take a look at each player from 2018 Team Florida. Today, we take a look at the four catchers in attendance.

Brendan Roney C / 2B / Key West, FL / 2020

The 5-foot-10, 175 pound C/INF was one of the  bigger position player winners from the week. Roney is physical, with lean strength throughout the frame. Primarily a catcher, he has all of the tools to be an above average defender. The hands work well, has  athletic footwork, a clean transfer and pop times that ranged from 1.97-2.11. He also showed athleticism and some quick twitch in the infield. He has enough athleticism to play anywhere on the field. Offensively, he has present above average bat speed while staying compact through the zone. Exit velocity of 89 mph, he has a strong lower half, quick twitch and is aggressive through the zone. Overall, the athleticism and tools project well. Offensively, he has a chance to be a top of the order hitter and will be a high follow and shouldn’t be uncommitted long.

Bennett Lee C / 2B / Jesuit, FL / 2020

An athletic 6-foot-, 190 pounds, Lee has a lot of all around upside. Defensively, he has some quick twitch actions, with flexibility and ability to receive. He has an above average feel for the position and consistently showed the ability to get into a quality position to receive. He has a quick, clean transfer and throws have carry with pop times 2.01-2.15 and has been as low as 1.92. Offensively, he stands tall and trusts his hands while creating leverage and staying balanced with the lower half. There is present barrell awareness and ability to hit, with present gap to gap power with more to come as he matures.

Matthew Menendez C / 1B / ESB Academy , FL / 2020

Uncommitted, standing at 6-foot-1, 185 pounds he has a strong frame. Defensively, he moves well behind the plate. The wrists are strong and showed an above average ability to receive. Pop times were not what they have been in the past at 2.2-2.4, but has carry on the throws and tools to be an above average defender. Offensively, he has a wide, strong base. Drove a double to center in the first game and there is power potential. Overall, has present tools, above average defensive potential and power potential.

Henry Politz C / 1B / Jesuit, FL / 2020

A strong bodied, 6-foot-2, 220 pound C/1B. Defensively, he moves well at first and behind the plate showed ability to block and receive with pop times that ranged from 2.0-2.15. His calling card is his bat. He has a strong lower half, starting a  a bit crouched, he can fight against his front side and not get to extension consistently. When he does clear the back side and work through the ball he shows present power with above average power potential. Had a single in game one. Left handed power with ability to catch and play first.
