2018 OF/IF Chris Ruckdeschel of St. Thomas Aquinas has really proven to be able to swing the bat at recent events. Ruckdeschel stands at 6 feet, 165 pounds with a lean, athletic and projectable frame with strength. He has pretty good size for age and a good frame that will fill out, but the way the ball jumps off his bat you would think he was going into his senior year or he was over 200 pounds.
Chris possesses very quick hands, good bat speed, a nice swing plane, and uses his lower half well. Combing these factors with an advanced approach, the ball really explodes off his bat. At first glance, nothing appears extraordinary until you notice his short, quick swing and the way his hips fire. These mechanics allow him to not get beat inside, find the barrel consistently, and create good leverage with his hips and legs. Not only can Ruckdeschel hit, he appears to be an above average runner that will allow him to leg out some infield singles, steal bases, turn singles into doubles, and turn doubles into triples.
We should not be surprised if Chris has a strong sophomore high school season and becomes a more familiar name around the state by this time next year.
