As November comes to a close we take one final look at the roster from our final event of the year: the Maryland Fall Invitational at Mount St. Mary's University. We We conclude our coverage with a full analysis of the ten dual players.
MARYLAND FALL INVITATIONAL PITCHERS (LISTED ALPHABETICALLY)
Joseph Carpenter IV RHP/OF Caesar Rodney (DE) 2020
Athletic body type and 5-foot-8, 155 pound frame. Hits from a balanced, athletic, slightly open stance with front foot and knee slightly inverted. Small stride and short, compact, level swing path. Generates some lower half involvement in swing and stays behind the ball. Line drive type hitter with an exit velo of 73 mph. Plays through the ball in the outfield with fundamental footwork and quick, clean exchanges. Throws with shorter arm action from a high three-quarters arm slot at 71 mph. Ran a 7.32 60-yard dash. Controlled side-step wind-up and leg kick into a nice balance position. Clean hand separation and smooth delivery with some lower half drive. Throws with long arm action from a mid three-quarters arm slot with easy effort. Lands square to the plate with and athletic finish. Fastball sat 67-73 mph and change-up was 63-65 mph with slight fade. Breaking ball showed tight spin and big 11/5 shape at 60-62 mph.
Hayden Dextradeur OF/LHP Catoctin 2020
Athletic body type and 5-foot-10, 145 pound frame. Hits from the left side in a balanced, athletic, square stance and wide base. Quick back load and short stride. Short, compact, slightly uphill swing path. Strong lower half involvement and excellent balance. Stays behind the ball well and gets good extension through contact with an exit velo of 77 mph. Line drive type hitter with some gap pop. Plays through the ball in the outfield with quick footwork and clean exchanges. Throws with long arm action from a high three-quarters arm slot at 74 mph. Ran a 7.50 60-yard dash. Side-step wind-up with a quick, high leg kick into a tall balance point. Clean hand separation with slight uphill shoulder tilt. Strong down to out lower half drive. Throws with long, loose arm action from a high three-quarters slot with easy effort. Gets over front side well and lands square to the plate with an athletic finish. Fastball sat 71-73 mph and change-up showed slight dive at 62-64 mph. Breaking ball had big, gradual 1/7 shape at 56-59 mph.
Andres Enriquez OF/RHP Thomas Johnson 2020
Athletic body type and 6-foot, 165 pound frame with room to grow. Hits from a balanced, athletic, square stance at the plate. Medium sized leg kick and nice separation. Showed some lower half involvement and bat speed. Slightly longer, level swing path with an exit velo of 76 mph. Line drive type hitter. Plays through the ball in the outfield with fundamental footwork and a quick, clean exchange. Throws with long arm action from a low three-quarters slot at 75 mph. Ball showed some carry to home plate. Ran a 7.56 60-yard dash. Controlled side-step wind-up and high leg kick into a tall balance point. Clean hand separation and strong down to out lower half drive. Gets over front side well and lands square to the plate with an athletic finish. Smooth delivery, bending back and throwing downhill with easy effort. Long arm action, creating some arm speed through release, and throwing from a mid three-quarters slot. Fastball sat 73-75 mph. Breaking ball had tight spin and sharp 12/6 and 11/5 shape at 58-59 mph.
Tre Jones OF/RHP Caesar Rodney (DE) 2019
Athletic, long body type and 6-foot-2, 163 pound frame with room to fill out. Hits from a balanced, athletic, slightly open stance and slightly wider base. Quick, medium sized leg kick with some separation. Stays behind the ball well with a short, uphill swing path and high finish. Quick bat speed and good extension through contact. Spins on back foot causing him to lose balance. Gap-to-gap line drive type hitter with some pop. Exit velo was 82 mph. Athletic and plays through the ball in the outfield with quick footwork and quick, clean exchanges. Throws with long arm action from a high three-quarters slot with uphill shoulder tilt. Ball showed carry and accuracy at 79 mph. Ran a 6.94 60-yard dash. Controlled wind-up and leg kick into a tall balance position. Clean hand separation and quick delivery to the plate with some lower half drive. Lands open to the plate with an athletic finish. Throws with shorter arm action from a high three-quarters slot with light effort. Creates quick arm speed through release. Fastball sat 76-78 mph and change-up was 64-66 mph. Breaking ball showed tight spin and both 11/5 and 12/6 shape at 63-66 mph.
Connor Leard OF/RHP Glenelg 2020
Long, athletic, body type and projectable 6-foot-4, 175 pound frame. Hits from a balanced, athletic, slightly open stance at the plate. Smooth back load and average stride length with a small leg kick. Short, slightly uphill swing path with good extension through contact and some lower half involvement. Showed excellent balance in the box and quick bat speed. Drove balls in the gap during BP showing pull side power and recorded a 86 mph exit velo. Controlled approach to the ball in the outfield. Plays through with a clean exchange and long arm action. Throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with some carry at 78 mph. Ran a 7.52 60-yard dash. Pitches from the stretch with a slow, deliberate leg kick into a tall balance point. Clean hand separation and down to out lower half drive. Throws with long, loose, arm action from a low three-quarters slot with light effort. Creates quick arm speed through release and pitches downhill getting over front side well. Smooth delivery and lands slightly open to the plate with an athletic finish. Fastball sat 76-77 mph and change-up was 66-69 mph with fade. Split dropped 12/6 at 64-65 mph and breaking ball showed bigger 11/5 shape at 64-65 mph as well.
Garrett Osborne RHP/1B Urbana 2021
Solid body type and 6-foot-2, 225 pound frame. Hits from a balanced, square stance at the plate with front foot slightly open. Sinks into a slightly crouched, compact load position. Minimal stride and lower half involvement. Stays behind the ball with good extension through contact. Short, uphill swing path with some bat speed. Exit velo was up to 82 mph. Gap-to-gap line drive type hitter and more power projected with more lower half involvement in swing. Plays through the ball at third base with clean exchanges. Throws from the side at 65 mph across the diamond. Big side-step wind-up and quick, high leg kick into a compact balance point. Clean hand separation and controlled down to out lower half drive in delivery. Long back arm action shortening to the ear before dropping down to deliver from the side. Showed some arm speed through release and lands square to the plate with an athletic finish. Fastball sat 63-65 mph and touched 69 mph with slight arm side run. Breaking ball showed big, gradual 11/5 break at 54-57 mph. Change-up sat 57-59 mph with fade.
Nathan Stein LHP/OF/1B Mt. Airy Christian 2020
Athletic, lanky body type and 6-foot, 155 pound frame. Hits from a tall, balanced, slightly closed stance. Quick toe-tap load creating some separation. Excellent balance and average lower half involvement. Long, level swing path and good extension through contact. Stays on the ball well form the left side. Gap-to-gap line drive type hitter with an exit velo of 76 mph. Athletic and plays through the ball at first base with clean exchanges. Controlled approach, playing through the ball in the outfield with fundamental footwork. Threw with long arm action from a high three-quarters slot at 74 mph both at first base and from the outfield. Ran a 7.33 60-yard dash. Side-step wind-up and high leg kick into a tall, compact balance point. Clean hand separation with slight uphill shoulder tilt. Controlled delivery with some lower half drive. Throws with long arm action from a high three-quarters slot. Lands square to the plate with a more upright finish. Fastball sat 68-72 mph and change-up was 56-59 mph. Breaking ball showed big, gradual 1/7 break at 57-60 mph.
Jayden Wolford OF/RHP Caesar Rodney (DE) 2020
Long, lanky, athletic body type and projectable 6-foot-2, 160 pound frame with room to fill out. Hits from a tall, athletic, balanced and slightly closed stance at the plate. Short stride with hands pre-loaded. Slightly longer, level swing path with some bat speed. Average lower half involvement and good extension through contact. Gap-to-gap line drive type hitter with an exit velo of 80 mph. Plays through the ball in the outfield with clean exchanges. Throws with short arm action from a mid three-quarters arm slot at 75 mph. Ran a 7.13 60-yard dash. Side-step wind-up with a high leg kick into a tall, quarter corkscrew balance point. Clean hand separation and down to out lower half drive. Throws with short arm action from a high three-quarters slot with light effort. Creates some arm speed through release and gets over front side well with a recoil finish. Showed good fastball command. Fastball sat 70-76 mph. Breaking ball had big, gradual 12/6 shape at 64-68 mph.
James Wood OF/RHP St. John’s 2021
Long, physical, athletic body type and very projectable 6-foot-5, 200 pound frame. Hits from a balanced, athletic, square stance at the plate. Rhythmic load, short stride and nice separation. Stays behind the ball well with strong lower half involvement. Short, slightly uphill swing path. Stays on the ball with good extension through contact. Easy swing with and exit velo up to 85 mph. Gap type hitter with major pull side power. Took one out over the right-center field fence and drive several other ball through the gaps during BP. Controlled approach to the ball in the outfield. Plays through it with short, quick footwork and clean exchanges. Throws with long, whippy arm action from a high three-quarters arm slot at 77 mph. Controlled side-step wind-up, leg kick, and balance point. Clean hand separation with some down to out lower half drive. Throws downhill from a thigh three-quarters slot with easy effort. Creates quick arm speed through release. Lands square to the plate with an upright finish. Showed command of three pitches. Fastball sat 82-83 mph and change-up was 72-73 with plus fade. Breaking ball showed big gradual 11/5 shape at 66-69 mph. Threw a few with sharper break as well.
Trevor Yusko C/RHP Thomas Johnson 2021
Athletic body type and 6-foot-1, 181 pound frame with room to grow. Hits from a balanced, athletic, slightly closed stance. Lowers hands in load to chest height and takes a medium-sized inverted leg kick with a short stride. Hands and bat are short to the ball with a slightly uphill swing path. Showed quick bat speed, some lower half involvement, and really nice extension through contact. Gap-to-gap type hitter with power to the pull-side. Exit velo was 82 mph. Quiet body behind the plate receiving. Quick footwork and exchange on throws to second base. Throws with short arm action from a high three-quarters slot at 70 mph. Showed accuracy on throws with pop times ranging 2.02-2.13. Controlled wind-up and high leg kick into a tall, compact balance point. Clean hand separation with strong lower half drive off the rubber. Creates quick arm speed through release. Throws with shorter arm action from a high three-quarters slot with easy effort. Lands square to the plate with an athletic finish. Fastball sat 77-78 mph. Breaking ball showed big 11/5 shape and gradual break at 65-70 mph.
