PBR New England's Top Stories for the Year 2016: Breakout Performances in the 2019/2020 Class
The Arms
Henry Weycker, 2019 left-hander out of Wellesley in Mass. The stuff is plus with the spin being dynamite. Sits in the mid-80s now with a plus hammer from the left-side. Keep an eye on this guy as he is still on the market.
Chris Rassias, 2019 right-hander who is an unknown, but won’t be for long once he hits the summer circuit. The arm is quick and the spin is good. Good looking prospect on the bump. Another one out of St John’s Prep as they keep pumping out Division 1 players.
Jimmy Hagan, 2019 right-hander out of Western Massachusetts and Westfield High School. The arm is long on the back and quick out front. Shows above average spin and should draw a ton of attention this coming spring and summer. Stuff should jump through the roof at some point.
Nick McDonald, will be a high profile 2019 right-hander this coming summer. The stuff and arm is legit. If you haven’t heard the name, keep an eye out. Touched 86 with plus spin last August. The frame projects and as long as he stays healthy, the sky’s the limit.
Parker Hansen, a 2019 right-hander from Granby Memorial, attended Futures, showed well but erupted at a pitcher analysis this past fall. The fastball got to 86 mph, the arm action is clean and quick on the back side, with a ton more in there. Pitches downhill and pounds it to both sides.
Asa Runge, a legit 2020 prospect out of New Hampshire. The fastball sits in the low 80’s and he shows an above average spin pitch. Should garner a ton of college and pro attention as he matures.
Jack Ambrosino, 2020 right-hander out of Vermont and South Burlington High School. The arm works well and the frame projects well. Hopefully he can get some coaching and tutelage in Vermont during the coming years cause the stuff is good at this point of his maturation.
The Position Players
Jeffrey Nicol, a physical right-handed hitting catcher from Wolcott high, had a very good freshman year, collecting over 10 extra base hits. Defensively, shows to be a solid receiver, the arm is strong, good flight and throws are on the bag, attending the Futures for 2017.
Ian Blatchford, a switch hitting second baseman/third baseman from the St. Lukes School and Baseball U CT. Showed extremely well at the Connecticut underclass, collecting 4 hits and making plays all over the field. At the plate, has a balanced gap to gap approach to at the plate from both sides. Projects out better from the left side, average runner, shows to have good actions defensively.
Elliot Good, a smooth fielding middle infielder from Maloney, actions are good, clean arm path, clocked in the high-70s across the diamond. Offensively, has a spread out approach at the plate.
