New England Top Ten Breakdown: Top Viewed Prospect Profiles - #3 Chris Winkel
#3 Chris Winkel, 1B, Amity, 2016 (UConn commit)
Scouting Report: Winkle a 6-foot-4, 190 pound, left-handed hitting 1st baseman, has a big athletic body. Hits from balanced stance, hands are loose and start in good hitting position. The path to ball is good, the stride tends to get a bit long which causes him to pull the ball at times. For the most part stays through the ball well and has a high finish. Shows plus power to pull side, see’s off speed pitches well, usually didn't chase much at the HS level. As he gets more at bats against better pitching will have to work at driving the outer fastball to opposite gap. Defensively shows soft hands and footwork is above average around the bag, has easy fluid quick arm action, arm strength is above average with easy carry to it. Winkle runs well for his size, 4.2 home to first and is a 6.7-6.8 runner with a long stride.
Overview: In 2016, the 6-foot-4 athletic 1st basemen comes in at the 4th spot in the 2016 class and 101st overall for PBR. Look for Winkel to continue his development over his next few years for the Huskies with a possible change to the outfield thanks to his athleticism.
