 WEST HARTFORD, Ct. - Jack Marshall understands the odds are against making it to the big leagues.
“I like discovering and doing the impossible. I want to make an impact in this world,” Marshall said. “If not in baseball, then I’d love to do something to help others.” But first things first. Right now the Kingswood Oxford junior is looking to make a name for himself on the ball diamond. “Major league baseball is a stretch, only .001 percent do it, but I believe I can do it,” Marshall said. “So many say you can’t, but I have the talent and the work ethic. I love proving people wrong. Making it to college and playing Division I baseball is the first step.” Holy Cross, Sacred Heart, Fairfield, Quinnipiac and Northeastern all have the 65th-ranked New England 2020 on their radar. “They all saw me in Indiana at the Future Games,” Marshall noted. “That was a big boost in my recruiting. It gave me a chance to show my skills in front of almost everyone in the nation. It was a great time.” The second-rated junior second baseman in New England impressed those watching at the premier PBR event of the summer. “I hit well in Indiana,” reflected Marshall, who had a two-run double and triple during the three games played. “I showed my power and showed consistency barrelling up the baseball.” It is an area that Trevor Brown, PBR New England director of scouting, feels Marshall shines at in baseball. “Jack Marshall is an offensive prospect,” Brown explained. “His hit tool is by far his best tool. He shows the ability to drive the baseball to all fields. He currently has gap power and should be a solid doubles hitter.” Marshall points to improving his limitations as part of the plan in making it at the next level. “I’m working on my foot speed, that’s the biggest criticism of my game,” noted the 6-1 180-pounder, who has put on 20 pounds the last year in pursuit of his dream. “I want to do whatever I can trying to improve my craft.” What position Marshall ends up is an uncertainty, with second base and third base his current top two spots on the field. |
