MONROE, Ct. - The ability to hit began at an early age for Tyler Kipp. “Since I can remember my father has been a big influence on me,” Kipp related about his dad Chris. “He’s always taken the time out of his day to work with me on my hitting. The minute I was home from school I’d do my homework and then go to the facility to hit. I’d work on it from 3 o’clock to 9 o’clock. That’s been a big part of my success.” The work has paid off with a commitment to Fairfield. “I started talking to them a month-and-a-half ago,” the junior from Masuk High School reflected. “Our program had a practice, the coach came and I played well in front of him. Then I went to a tourney in Fort Myers and he invited me on a visit. I didn’t think much about it at the time.” Although less than an hour from home, the 115th-rated 2021 in New England was not too familiar with the school. “I’d watched a game there before but really didn’t know about it,” Kipp said. “But they had a brand new hitting barn by the field, a new hitting coach and I really liked their pitching coach and the head coach.” The short trip to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference school turned into the highlight of his recruitment. “It was a visit I’ll never forget the rest of my life,” Kipp explained. “It was like a movie with the coaches selling the school and wanting me to play for them. When I was leaving, I knew I wanted to play for them. The program and the pride the coaches have in it is what I’ll take away the most from it.” |
