Joe Henry RHP / 1B / Brunswick, CT / 2020Rankings StateRank: 123 / POS: 39
GREENWICH, Ct. - “You can’t teach 6-4, 230.” That is one of the things that Georgetown coaches told Joe Henry they like about him as a baseball player. “The love my body,” Henry said about the Big East school where the 123rd-ranked New England senior recently committed. “They like that I have a strong mound presence. I have a quick arm and a strong mentality. I like to compete and I like challenges. “They also said I struggle in the zone and I’m inconsistent at times,” Henry added. “They said they want to work with me to turn me into an elite pitcher.” Henry has made strides in that regard at Brunswick, a college preparatory school located 30 minutes from his home in Harrison, N.Y. “It’s been everything to me,” Henry said of the boarding school in Greenwich. “Making varsity as a freshman was the jump start. That’s when I realized I wanted to do this over other sports.” Henry was 6-0 and 180 pounds at the time, but growth has followed proving beneficial in the eyes of the 11th-rated right-handed pitcher in Connecticut. “It’s helped 100 percent,” Henry admitted. “Being in the weight room has been a game-changer. I love to get after it, I love to progress. I love working hard. I’ve gained almost 10 miles an hour in high school.” Velocity is not the only area that Henry, who has topped out at 87 mph on the mound, has made improvements. |
