Future Games Recap: Catchers
August 30, 2019
Team New York's third year at the Prep Baseball Report Future Games as a full squad yielded some of the best talent so far, including a quartet of backstops who held their own.
Catchers
Adonys Guzman C / 3B / Brunswick School, CT / 2022Full frame build with a thick, sturdy lower half. Above average defender in the dirt; showcased plus arm strength and pop times with throws that held their carry. At the plate he uses an even setup with a slight leg kick; gets on plane with the ball early with some natural lift to his swing path. Developing pop in the gaps.
|
Jaden DeLawder C / OF / FDR, NY / 2021Quiet confidence to his game for the athletic 6-foot-0 180 pound left-handed hitter. Showed impressive barrel control during his 3 days of batting practice; compact stroke that stays inside contact with pop to his pull side. Will hit for average and develop consistent power. Behind the plate he showed an accurate, on-the-bag arm with a positive ground gained with his footwork. Steady, calm receiver who was also solid in the dirt.
|
Robert Fratangelo C / 3B / Shaker, NY / 2021Strong, compact build at 5-foot-9 175 pounds. Showed perhaps the best raw power on the team during his pre-game batting practices and in his final two at-bats vs. New Jersey smoked two balls of mid to upper 80's fastballs. Even setup; pre-loads weight during take back. Explosive to the ball with plenty of juice to his pull side. Clean exchange, aggressive out of the crouch with plenty of arm strength. Will need to catch more advanced pitching down the road but really settled in over the week.
|
Alvin Paulino C / OF / Lehman , NY / 2021Solid 5-foot-10 200 pound right-handed hitter. Quiet setup with minimal pre-pitch actions. Short swing path with moderate extension; line drive results with the potential to add more power with some aggression in the box. Accurate arm with seamless exchange. Steady receiver and showed in-game awareness. Has a few untapped gears yet.
