The Prep Baseball Report’s Top Prospect Games took place on August 6th and 7th at the historical Cherry Creek High School Baseball Field.  70 prospects showed up and strutted their stuff in a pro-style workout. Over the next several days the PBR Scouting staff will roll out position-by-position rankings of the event, culminating with the Top Ten Overall Prospects from the showcase. We first started with the catchers. Today we cover the corners.

Top Corners

Justin Olson, 1B/LHP, Pine Creek, 2018 (Kentucky)
6-foot-2, 200 pounds. Bats and throws left. At the plate has a balanced stance and loads straight back, with a leg-kick stride. Swing is slightly uphill through the zone which produces a ton of power to both gaps. Has very good plate coverage. Lower half and upper half all work in sync. Gets very good extension through hitting zone. Produced an 89 mph exit velo off the tee. At 1B has soft hands and good feet for his size. throws from a high 3/4 arm slot and has good awareness around the bag. Threw 81 mph across the diamond. On the mound pumps hands over head to start. Square to the plate. Flies open a little to 3rd base side. Throws from a high 3/4 arm slot off two feet. Looks like he gets more leg drive from the stretch then from wind-up. Fastball was 82-83. Curveball was extremely sharp and a strikeout pitch with good 1/7 break at 68-69 mph. Ran a 7.4 laser timed 60.

Luke Ziegler, 3B/RHP, Valor Christian High School, 2018 (Pepperdine)
6-foot-2, 175-pound. Bats and throws right.  At the plate he stands tall and athletic and a little wider then last time we saw him. Generates good bat whip through the zone, and gets good separation. Hands are loose and gets good extension. Bat has level swing path that stays in hitting zone a long time. He hits off a firm front side with an exit velocity of 87 MPH.  In the field he shows smooth actions and a quick release.  He was accurate with an 83 MPH arm across the diamond, but we have at 85 mph before.  On the mound he stands tall and falls towards 1st. He lands in-line with good extension out front and throws from a high ¾ arm slot.  He showed good command of all three pitches.  He featured an 86 MPH fastball with late movement, a 64 MPH curve with 11/5 break and a 75 MPH change that lived down in the zone. Ran a 7.40 laser timed 60.

Sam Ireland, 1B/RHP, Mountain Vista, 2019
6-foot-1, 185 pounds. Bats and throws right. At the plate stands tall with a slight open stance that he closes down with a short stride. Strong kid. Swings down and through the ball with very good extension off a firm front side. All weekend generated gap to gap power, which included a monster 400 plus homerun to right center. At 1B has soft hands, good feet around the bag, and throws from a short high 3/4 arm-slot at 82 mph. On the mound he slightly crouches, and could add more velo with more leg drive towards plate, but still generated a fastball that sat 80-82 touching 84. Curve was 68-69 with late sharp break. Lands in-line then falls off towards 1B. Ran a 7.6 laser timed 60.

Billy Pospisil, 3B/C, Pomona, (2019)
5-foot-t-10, 180 pounds. Bats and throws right. At the plate has a slightly opened stance, with a toe-tap stride. Keeps hands inside ball with slight uphill swing path. Has pull tendencies because he flies a little open on front side. Produced a 87 mph exit velocity off the tee. Has a strong arm in the infield, and had good glove to hand exchange. Threw 82 mph across diamond from a high 3/4 arm slot and gains good ground. As catcher had one of the top pop-times at 1.86 to 1.93 off a coach. Has potential on the mound to be pretty good. Throws from a high 3/4 arm slot, and arm is quick and works well with body. Short on the back side, hard to pick up. Stride is in-line with the plate with good leg drive. Throws off two-feet. Showcased a 80-81 mph fastball with some arm-side run. Curveball was 68-69 and so was changeup. Both thrown at same arm speed as fastball. Ran a 7.0 laser timed 60. Versatile 2019 player to follow.

Colton Schannuth, 3B/RHP, Chaparral,(2018)
6-foot, 150 pounds. Bats and throws right. At the plate stands tall and has long back/forth stride as a timing mechanism. Swing is uphill through the zone which generates an 83 mph exit velo off a tee with extension through the zone. Has pull tendencies. At 3B has quick feet, fields the ball out front and throws from a high 3/4 arm slot at 75 mph across the diamond. On the mound has lanky projectable frame. Short on back side, hides ball well, stride lands in-line to the plate. Fastball lived at 76-77 but appears faster. Ran a 7.9 laser timed 60.

Reggie Williams, 3B/2B, Douglas County (2018)
5-foot-10, 190 pounds. Throws right, bats left. Big left-handed hitting 3rd baseman. Depends on upper body to generate power in his swing. Has a balanced stance that starts wide and ends up more narrow on short stride, ending on a firm front side. Swing is level through the zone, gap to gap power, and exit velocity off the tee was 80 mph. At 3rd moves and ranges well for a big kid. Good feet, soft hands, gains good ground towards 1B throwing 71 mph across the diamond. Ran a 7.8 laser timed 60.
