PBR Colorado strives to be the most comprehensive source of player information across the state. The Prep Baseball Report is the No. 1 resource for high school baseball in each state we cover through our variety of events, boots-on-the-ground scouting staff, daily coverage, and multimedia platforms. Our multimedia platforms and events work in tandem, ultimately creating the most powerful source of high school baseball promotion in each state.  While other organizations take a national approach, our goal is to become the authoritative voice on the ground level of each state.

We recently did a series on the top uncommitted pop-times, 60-times, arm velos, and exit velocities. Now we are doing a series on our Top 5 overall numbers for each class.

Top 2017 LHP Arm Velocities:

Conner Nantkes, Cherokee Trial (Washington State)
Max Fastball Velocity: 85
A 6-foot-2, 180-pound left hand hitting 1B/LHP who ran a 7.30 60.  Balanced at the plate with a quick stride and load.  Weight transfers forward on the swing and he shows good extension out front.  Swing stays level and he lives in the gaps.  Showcased a 92 MPH exit velocity.  Athletic in the field at first base with good feet and instincts.  He moves well on balls to his glove side and delivers from a high ¾ arm angle.  He showcased an accurate 82 MPH arm across the diamond.  On the mound he starts slightly closed and gets good balance and drive to the plate.  He lands in-line with the plate and falls off to the third base side on his finish.  He throws from a high ¾ arm slot and features an 85 MPH fastball with slight tail and a 70 MPH curve with sharp break.  He finished his showcase with a 74 MPH change that moves into the right hand hitter.  Identified as the best two way talent 2017 at this event. 

Matt Erickson, Fairview (Yale)
Max Fastball Velocity: 84
A 6-foot-0, 170-pound left hand pitcher who starts square.  He uses a short rocker step and a compact leg kick with a slight sink to deliver to the plate.  He shows good reach to the plate and falls off slightly to the left side on his follow through.  He delivers from a high ¾ arm slot and maintained good arm speed on all three pitches.  His fastball was 84 MPH with good command away, he also showcased a 67-68 MPH curve with sharp break in on the hitters hands and a 72-74 MPH change. 

Javy Rodriguez, Douglas County
Max Fastball Velocity: 84
A 5-foot-9, 183-pound left hand pitcher who delivers from a windup slightly past balanced.  He lands in-line with the plate and releases from an over the top slot.  He did drop down to a high ¾ on a few pitches.  He shows good command of the zone in and out on all three pitches.  Strong lower leg drive carries him to the third base side on his finish.  He showcased an 84 MPH fastball with slight tail, a 70 MPH curve with sweeping break and finished with a 77 MPH change that lived away from the right hand hitter. 

Tyler Carpenter, Fairview (Illinois State)
Max Fastball Velocity: 84
6-foot-3, 200 pounds. The Illinois State commit threw two scoreless innings sitting 82-84 mph with arm side run. On the mound he stands closed and gets slightly past balanced.  He drives hard to the plate and lands in-line on his delivery.  He throws from an over the top arm slot. Utilizes a 72-73 MPH curve with 1/7 tilt, 76-77 MPH change down in the zone and a 74-75 MPH slider. Changeup was nasty with late fade. 

Alex Clouthier, Mountain Vista
Max Fastball Velocity: 78
A 6-foot-1, 210-pound left hand pitcher who delivers from a smooth quick motion.  He gets good balance and stays in-line with the plate through the pitch.  Arm comes over the top and arm speed remains constant on all three pitches.  Fastball works away in the zone and was consistently 78 MPH.  His out pitch is an over the top 12/6 curve at 79 MPH with sharp break.  He finished the day with a 71 MPH change that lives down and away.
