Q&A with Central Arizona JC Commit, Luke Meyers

Future Vaquero, Luke Meyers, sat down and talked about his recruitment process and what excited him about going the junior college route. Meyers explains how he's excited to continue grinding in Arizona, both on the field and in the weight room to get better, and how JUCO baseball will help him achieve this. 

Luke Meyers goes more in depth about his recruitment journey and what it was like to play in the West Coast Games.

 

Q&A with Luke Meyers

Q: What was the recruiting trail like for you? Were colleges interested early on and how did you get on the college coaches radars?

Meyers: The recruiting process was definitely a very long road. It actually took until my junior spring season for me to get some looks. The first school that reached out was the University of Arkansas-Little Rock. And after that, a lot more coaches started calling. I just had to stick to my process and I know that everyone's path is different. I just stayed focused in the weight room and on the field with the goal of playing college baseball always in the back of my mind.

Q: You are committed to Central Arizona JC, how did you connect with them and what was it like talking to their staff? Did you visit, and if so how was that?

Meyers: I actually connected with CAC after I pitched in a tournament in Arizona. They came to see me and I pitched really well, and after the game they came to the dugout to talk to my coaches and I. After that, my family and I had a couple phone calls with them and then they offered for me to come out on a visit. I went and I immediately fell in love with the campus and the field. I got to see them play a fall game and they looked great so it was even more convincing for me to commit there. It only took a few days after my visit to commit and I am really excited to get down there next fall.

Q: What made you choose Central Arizona JC over other schools that gave you offers?

Meyers: I decided on CAC because I feel like they really took a lot of time to get to know my family and I, and I think it was the best fit for me. I had other options from schools like Hawaii, Arizona State, and Metro State. But I really am a firm believer in the JUCO route and I think that I can get so much better as a player and even as a man by going to CAC. I know it's going to be a grind but I am so ready to embrace that grind and I am really excited for it.  

Q: What was it like to play in the West Coast games alongside some of the top uncommitted talent on the West Coast?

Meyers: Playing in the West Coast Games was one of my favorite events this summer. It was awesome because everybody there was uncommitted so we all played with a chip on our shoulder and personally, that makes it more fun. It was definitely good for me to see how I stacked up against other top players in the region. 

Q: Now that you have finished your recruitment process, do you have any advice for young '23s, ‘24s, 25’s or even ‘26s who have just started this process?

Meyers: My advice to the younger Colorado ball players would be to stick with the process. It was tough to see so many people in my class commit to big DI's so early. But I just had to ignore that and keep going because I knew I had the talent to go somewhere big. I had to bet on myself and it payed off in the end.

Q: Lastly, out of all the PBR events you have attended in your career, what has PBR meant to you during your time playing baseball in Colorado?

Meyers: PBR has helped me a lot. When Mike Anderson took over I think that's when PBR made it's turn to be a great way for players to get exposure. They have done a lot for my recruiting process and I think that the people who run PBR genuinely care about getting us Colorado players some great exposure.
