Preseason Standouts 2020-2021
February 8, 2018
The light of spring continues to be seen in the distance, but with PBR Preseason events in full swing, prospects have begun cementing themselves as players for recruiting coordinators to follow. This week, On the Hunt, takes a look at an impressive crop of standouts from recent events. Of the seven players listed in the 2020 & 2021 classes, there are three physical catchers, three potential frontline pitchers (one left-handed), and an athletic, left-handed hitting outfielder. The players range from Colorado, Louisiana, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Texas.
John Seibert C / OF / Warwick, PA / 2020Seibert stormed onto the scene at PBR Pennsylvania’s Preseason All-State event where he showcased his physical and athletic arsenal of skills. Broad-chested with natural strength throughout, Seibert stands 6-foot-1, 205-pounds, and was able to run an impressive 6.8 60-yard dash. At the plate, the right-handed hitter exhibits twitchy, strong hands that allow his barrel to work quickly to the ball on an uphill path before the bottom hand drives it through. He produced an exit velocity of 95 mph off the tee, and shows power to both gaps with more, likely, coming in the future. Behind the plate, Seibert is a quiet receiver with soft hands. His footwork is solid, and as he continues to work on his adequate transfer, I expect his 2.0-2.06 pop times to go down even lower. Especially since his throws show carry (77 mph from crouch) and are accurate. Overall, Seibert shows all the makings of a middle of the order type bat, and as his frame matures even more, he could become one of the better 2020 catching prospects in the northeast. |
