Heritage Defeats Mountain Vista 5-4

Littleton - This time of year can always be a crazy time in Colorado due to weather. Teams in some cases are playing six games in six days to make up from the past snow storm that hit. On Tuesday the Mountain Vista Golden Eagles returned to Heritage to finish a game that was delayed from last week. Heritage trailed 3-2 going into the top of the fourth inning when the game was suspended due to the weather on Friday afternoon, the game on Tuesday started in the top of the fourth inning. Junior Jack Liffrig would start the game on Friday, but due to delay would be lifted for sophomore Sam Ireland. Riley Egloff would end up throwing a complete game and get the 5-4 win.
Heritage would jump out to a 2-0 lead on Mountain Visa Friday highlighted by RBI singles from sophomore Eric McKnight, and Egloff, but Mountain Vista would respond in the top of the 3rd highlighted by a 2-run single from junior Zach Paschke to take a 3-2.
In the 5th Ireland would hit an RBI double to take a 4-2 lead for Mountain Vista. Heritage would generate a run in the bottom of the inning to cut the lead to 4-3.
That score would stand until the 7th. Ireland would get the first two outs of the inning sandwiched between Trevor Young. Senior catcher Casey Opitz would double to tie the game scoring Young, and then McKnight would get the walk-off hit to win the game.
With the victory, the Heritage Eagles would improve to 12-6, and 6-3 in league. A league that now has a 6-way tie for 1st place. The Mountain Vista Golden Eagles fall to 13-4 on the season, and also 6-3 in league. Up next for Heritage is an away league game against Chaparral today. Mountain Vista will also play a league game today at Regis.
