denver id quick hits: the 2023 arms
Englewood, CO- On January 23 , 2022, PBR Colorado started the year off with the Denver Preseason ID Event at Slammers in Englewood, Colorado. The day was full of great indoor batting cage evaluations with the opportunity to get outside on turf for our defensive evaluations.
Our staff strategically hosts Preseason ID events throughout the state in search of players who have taken advantage of the offseason, identifying new prospects to add to our follow lists or players our staff is already familiar with who are on the rise. This event gave a perfect opportunity to secure invitations to some of the summer's biggest invite-only events such as the Centennial State Games, West Coast, and PBR Future Games and Jr. Future Games.
Today we focus on the 2023 arms who impressed our staff one week ago from today:
Jack Novak RHP / SS / ThunderRidge, CO / 2023Big upside for the 6-foot, 155-pound right-hander who comes with a lean body type. Simple, repeatable motion with good tempo and a high leg-kick with dip to drive delivery. Extended stride gets to strong base and uses front side leverage. Has high ¾ release. Added strength will benefit Jack's game. Fastball ranged from 83-84.5 with a curveball at 71 and changeup at 76.6. He kept the ball down in the zone. Also as a right-handed hitter, he gets to stacked rear side and uses rotational acceleration well. Consistent plane through zone with an exit velocity of 89.3. |
Darian Burnett RHP / 1B / Erie, CO / 2023Burnett has a simple motion in windup that gets him to consistent delivery and release point. It’s a high leg kick with a coiled lower half. Long arm arc to high ¾ release. Uses lower half well and can add to his front side leverage. Fastball ranged from 83-87.6 and he threw a trio of offspeed pitches. Curveball at 69 mph, slider at 70 mph and a changeup at 75-77 mph. There’s more in the tank for Burnett and he’ll be a great follow as he develops. |
Cameron Ochoa RHP / 1B / Grand Junction, CO / 2023The Western Slope product had a great day at the plate and on the mound. Front side rocker step with high leg-kick. Has some dip to drive with long extension for stride. Head clears slightly and can stay better connected with release. Release is from a high ¾ slot. Strong lower half with good rotation. Some refining with good projectable growth. Uses that strong base as a right-handed hitter, as well. Great rotational acceleration, coiled stride with some length in hands. Top exit velo on the day of 95.3 with great potential for development on both sides of the ball. |
