Here are the players that stood out at the Denver Metro Open ID at Grandview High School.
Eric Mingus: 2015 Grad, SS, Grandview HS
Bats: R
Throws: R
Height: 5-7
Weight: 150
Eric looks like the complete package for the wolves. Moves real well to the ball at ss with good feet and a strong arm (83 mph) across the diamond. Packs gap to gap power in his swing. Gets a lot out of 5-7 frame. Has an open stance that he closes down well with short stride. Has fast to explosive bat speed and carries a little swagger at the plate. Ran a 6.83 60, and a 4.12 home to first off soft toss. Exit velo off bat was 85mph and bat speed behind was 87 mph. Had a good junior season hitting .500 scoring 25 runs and had 7 doubles and 2 triples. Expect power numbers to go up a little more his senior year. Still uncommitted.
Tyler Smith: 2016 Grad, MIF, Grandview HS
Bats: R
Throws: R
Height: 5-10
Weight: 155
Tyler is a little bit of an unknown. Showed real well on Tuesday. Explosive bat speed. Aggressive swing with a smooth load and leg kick. Has swagger at the plate. Strong lower half with gap to gap power. At SS Smith threw 83 mph across the diamond. Ran a 6.99 60 and had a 4.28 home to first time off soft toss. Based on physical skills Tyler showed he is a player to watch in the 2016 Colorado Class.
Seth Barnes: 2015 Grad, C, ThunderRidge
Bats: R
Throws: R
Height: 6-0
Weight: 205
Strong looking catcher for ThunderRidge. Was a starter for them in 2014. Showed good balance at the plate and he is athletic looking. Gap to Gap hitter with power in his swing. Good approach at the plate with good bat speed. 2.12 pop time behind plate. Not committed yet.
Gunnar Lamphere: 2017 Grad, RHP/OF, Grandview HS
Bats: L
Throws: R
Height: 6-0
Weight: 155
Lanky looking 2017 grad with a lot of room to fill out. Throws from 3/4 arm slot. FB was in the 74-76 range. CB was 58-60. 2-Seamer tails into right hander. Threw 76 mph from Outfield. Ran a 7.18 60 time. Projectable player when he fills out since he is only going to be a sophomore.
Tyson Hays: 2017 Grad, C/3B, Grandview HS
Bats: R
Throws: R
Height: 5-9
Weight: 175
Hays is an up and coming catcher in the 2017 class. Showed some good bat speed with an 82 mph exit velo. Showed good balance hitting at the plate with short stride and good lower half. Gap to gap power with level swing through zone. Had a strong arm across infield for his age (77mph) and had a 2.04 pop time.
Nick Morris: 2016 Grad, P, Grandview HS
Bats: R
Throws: R
Height: 6-5
Weight: 180
You can't ignore Morris' height on the mound at 6-5 with room to fill out. Threw all three pitches in pen session. FB was consistently 78, CB was 64 with 11-5 tilt, and CH was 68 with late dive away from right hander. Showed good down angle and solid mechanics for his height. Intriguing prospect.
