The PBR Fall Elite Team wrapped up its fall season on Sunday with a 9 inning game against Batter's Box from Colorado. The PBR Fall Elite team also played Brighton High School and Grandview High School the week before.
Thomas Nagel, 3B/RHP, Dakota Ridge, 2016 (PBR)
6-foot-1, 175-pound right-handed hitting third baseman/right-handed pitcher with lanky, athletic, projectable frame, belted a walk off two run home run in the bottom of the 9th for PBR Fall. Hits from a tall, balance set-up, hands wrap back, utilizes a short stride with leg kick. Produces an inside out swing with gap-gap power. Shows good bat speed that produces 79 mph exit velocity. On the mound, he threw three innings and utilizes long, loose, high ¾ arm slot. Easy effort, slow tempo, tall-and-fall type delivery produces 78-79 mph fastballs from the windup and stretch. Touched 80 mph in game we scouted last week. Slows arm on 68-69 mph breaking ball with 12/6 shape that was also thrown for strikes. Nagel is starting to develop into his body and is an interesting follow over the next two years, especially if his velocity takes a jump into the mid to upper 80’s.
Marc Alva, OF, Columbine, 2015 (PBR)
5-foot-8, 155-pound left-handed hitting RHP/OF hits from a balanced stance and hands load back smooth. Swing produces explosive bat speed with a bat path that is level with good extension through the zone. He collected one double in the games against Batter's Box. He has gap to gap line drive power that produces 87 mph exit velocity. On the mound he threw three scoreless innings and was consistently around 76-79 mph which was improved from last event with a quick, high ¾ arm slot with a solid feel for three pitches. His 67-68 mph curveball showed slurry 11/5 sweeping action and was thrown for strikes.
Cole Blatchford INF/P Mountain Vista High School 2017 (Batter's Box)
The 5-foot-9 sophomore at Mountain Vista High School plays for Batter’s Box 18U team in the fall. A solid third base prospect that moves well on balls in the hole and closes ground quickly on bunts and slow rollers. He made a great bare hand play in a bunt laid down in Sunday’s game. At the plate Blatchford hits with a slightly open 60/40 stance. At the plate on Sunday, Blatchford collected one hit and laid down a picture perfect sacrifice bunt. On the mound, Blatchford threw two innings. He has a short compact motion and delivers the ball from an over the top arm slot. He has good fastball command for a sophomore and is developing an 11/5 curve and change up.
Casey Thompson,RHP/INF/OF, Lakewood, 2016 (PBR)
6-foot, 165-pound lanky right-handed pitcher, left handed hitter. Hits from a balanced setup, with short stride, gets extension with a high finish and line drives from gap-to-gap. On the mound, fastball sat 77-78 touching 79 mph from the same arm slot as in the infield. Against Batter's Box he threw 2 solid innings collecting 2 strikeouts. Utilizes tall and fall delivery, stride direction falls off to first base side. If he utilizes lower half more and strides out could gain more velocity. 66-69 mph curveball and has a deceptive 70-71 mph changeup thrown for strikes with arm side run.
Trevor Wilson, 1B, Lakewood High School, 2016 (PBR)
6-foot-1, 215-pound right-handed hitting first baseman hits from a closed, balanced setup, and dives out with his stride. His hands are positioned low and loads in an upward path. He has a short path to the ball with extension that produces line drives at 85 mph exit velocity that allows him to hit well to the gaps, but swing tends to favor right field. Wilson collected one hit on Sunday and laced another ball to right field that was caught.
Ryan Faircloth, OF, Dakota Ridge High School 2016 (PBR)
A 5-Foot-10 150 pound athletic outfielder bats and throws right. Throws from a long ¾ slinging arm slot with some accuracy. Hits from an slightly closed setup, load is minimal with hands already back with a good approach up the middle of the field. Ryan had a nice game making three catches, two that showcased his quick lateral movement to the gaps. At the plate, Ryan was 1-2 with a double and 2 RBI.
DJ Wilson, SS, Columbine High School, 2016 (Batter's Box)
5-foot-10 middle infielder who showed good range in Sundays game. Moves well in the hole and up the middle and showed a quick release and an accurate arm to first base. At the plate, Wilson hits from a balanced 50/50 stance. A short compact swing produced two line drives up the middle. An aggressive base runner who stole two bases in Sundays game.
Jake Starkey, MIF/OF, Dakota Ridge, 2017 (PBR)
5-foot-6, 125-pound second baseman/outfielder with above average range on balls up the middle, posses a very accurate arm to first base. He possesses soft hands on ground balls and has a great field presence. He also shows versatility being able to play left or right field. Against Batter's Box he had two nice defensive plays at second and collected one hit on the day. At the plate his 74 mph exit velocity produces good pop off the bat. He is a balanced hitter with a short stride which allows his hands to be quick to the ball, he has good bat control and hits well to both gaps. Starkey keeps it simple at the plate, and he has shown ability to handle low to mid 80's velocity with gap to gap line drive potential
Alex Covarruibias, LHP, Brighton, 2017
5-foot-10, 150 pound left-handed pitcher. Covarrubias impressed throwing from a left-handed 3/4 arm slot. Fast fall was 70-73 mph with late sink. He threw 3 innnings of no-ht ball against good PBR Colorado Fall Elite team with no walks and 2 k's. Pounded the strike-zone and only thre 32 pitches.
Alex Eddy, RHP, Brighton, 2017
5-foot-10, 160 pound right handed pitcher threw from a high 3/4 arm slot against PBR Colorado Fall Elite Team. Did not give up a hit in two innings of work. Fastball came in at 82-84 mph with high being 85. Threw a curve/slurve that came in at 70-72 mph. Ball jumps out of hand. Square to the plate and gets good extention on pitches. Player to follow with already good mid-80's velocity. Showed a very quick move to first base picking off one player.
Grant Schroeder, RHP, Grandview, 2016
6-foot-3, 165 pound right handed pitcher impressed with 2 good innings against the Colorado Fall Elite Team. Fastball was 85-86 mph from a 3/4 arm slot. Curveball flashed late tilt in 10-5 direction coming in at 70-71 mph. Was square to the plate with good extention towards the catcher. When we saw in in June at Denver-Metro Prospect ID ran a 7.25 60, with a 80 mph exit velocity. Strong looking athlete.
Andrew Coverly, RHP/3B, Grandview, 2016
6-foot, 175 pound RHP/3B showed good pop and bat speed at the plate hitting from a balanced athletic stance with level swing through the zone that produces gap to gap power. On the mound flashed a 80-82 mph fastball with a curve ball that was 69-71 with 10-5 tilt. Pounded the strike zone with both pitches. Good looking prospect.
