The other day we began our positional analysis of each position from the Colorado Prospect Games starting with the outfielders. Today we cover the corners. Players are listed in alphabetical order:
Devon Lujan, 1B/RHP, Olathe East, 2018
6-foot-3, 210 pounds. Bats and throws right. Big strong first baseman. Stands tall at the plate with balanced stance. Stride is short. Has gap to gap power, but could benefit with keeping bat in the hitting zone a little longer. In and out. Uphill swing. However a lot of power potential, and produced a 92 exit velo off the tee. Good lower half. Displayed soft hands at first. Arm is at a high 3/4 short arm angle throwing 75 mph. On the mound like his leg drive. Gets good extension out in front. Falls off to 1B side. Square to the plate and in-line with delivery. Fastball was 76-78 and curveball was in 60-63 mph range. Ran an 8 flat 60.
Griffin Moss, 1B, Chatfield, 2018
6-foot-2, 220 pounds. Bats and throws right. Stands with a slightly open, narrow stance. Hands load straight back into a bat wrap and some movment. Generates most of his power from his upper body, but shows gap to gap power potential. Swing is level through the zone with a high finish. Generated a 90 mph exit velo off the tee. Has short 3/4 arm slot from first base. Was 65 mph across the diamond. Ran a 7.65 60 time.
Brett Pendleton, 3B/OF, Legend, 2018
6-foot, 158 pounds Bats and throws right. Really like his athletic frame, and has a lot of room to get stronger. Came for the defensive portion of the event because of a football game on Saturday. Show good feet and hands at both SS and 3B. Arm was loose and was 70 mph across the diamond. Good hand to glove transfer. Registered an 84 mph exit velocity off the tee. Would like to see more of him.
Braden Thomson, 1B/OF, Arvada West, 2020
5-foot-10, 155 pounds. Bats and throws right. At the plate hits from a tall stance. Hands load slightly back then drop down to the ball. Has high one-arm finish. Is going to grow a lot. Line drive hitter right now with some power potential down the road. 78 mph exit velocity off the tee. Really like his arm action at first base. Short and quick from a high 3/4 arm slot. Good glove to hand transfer. Was 71 mph across the diamond. On the mound has that same quick arm action. Would like to see him get more leg drive. Is dependent on him arm right now. Could add more velocity. But the projectability is there. Was 64-66 mph with fastball. Ran a 7.9 60 time.
Grant Wilkinson, 3B/OF, Pine Creek, 2019
6-foot-1, 160 pounds. Bats and throws right. Really came away liking his tools. At the plate has a tall balanced stance. Generates good bat speed through the hitting zone. Just needs to keep hands inside of ball a little more at times. Lower and upper half work well together. Swing is slightly uphill with good extension. Tends to want to pull ball at times. Generated a 78 mph exit velocity off the tee. Came impressed with defensive play. Had some real nice backhands at 3B during the weekend. Shows good range to go to hole at 3B as well. Was 80 mph across the diamond. Also ran a 7.07 60 time. Strong skill set.
