Class of 2021 Preview Corner INF Analysis

The Prep Baseball Report’s Class of 2021 Preview Event took place Sunday May 6th at Dakota Ridge High School. Prospects from the 2021 class came together in a pro-style workout to strut their stuff in front of the PBR scouting staff.

We began our look at this event with the outfield position and catcher position, today we look at the corners position from the Class of 2021 Preview.

Logan Carlisle RHP / 3B / Chatfield, CO / 2021Rankings StateRank: 5 / POS: 3
5-foot-11, 195-pound right hand hitting 3B/RHP who ran a 6.96 60. Right-handed hitter, balanced setup, smooth load, short stride and maintains balance through contact. Compact, fluid, repeatable swing, creates bat speed, consistent hard contact; 93 mph exit velocity from a tee. Defensively, moves well left and right. Shows quick athletic actions and funnels into exchange, ¾ arm slot, throws topped at 80 mph.

Joel Anderson 3B / RHP / Rocky Mountain , CO / 2021Rankings StateRank: 12 / POS: 2
5-foot-9, 190-pound right hand hitting 3B/RHP who ran a 7.20 60. Balanced at the plate with a slow load on the pitch. Hips and hands fire through the zone on the swing. Good bat whip and extension out front produce an 84 mph exit velocity. Showed good bat control and gap to gap power. In the field he plays instinctual at third base and anticipates well. Arm is accurate across the diamond and plays at 75 mph. Simple motion on the mound, sinks and drives hard to the plate from balance. Lands slightly open and falls off after the pitch. Arm speed stays up on all pitches, fastball was 79 mph with run. He added a 68-70 mph curve with tight spin and 11/5 break. He finished with a 70-71 mph change at near fastball arm speed.

Nathan Gutierrez LHP / 1B / Douglas County, CO / 2021Rankings StateRank: 17 / POS: 1
6-foot-0, 150-pound left hand hitting 1B/LHP who ran a 7.57 60. Stands tall and open at the plate with a slow load and long stride to come square. Hands produce good whip and swing path is slightly uphill. Good extension out front and hits off a firm front side. Exit velocity was 81 mph. Defensively he moves well at first base and shows good feet around the bag. Arm is high ¾ and plays at 74 mph. On the mound, arm action is loose, high ¾ slot. Fastball is mostly straight, slightly runs to arm side, heavy fell, stays around the zone, sat 78-80 mph. Curveball has tight spin and 2/7 shape, 64-66 mph. Changeup sinks with feel, showed as best secondary pitch, 72-74 mph.

Evan DiBenedetto RHP / 3B / Fossil Ridge, CO / 20215-foot-10, 160-pound right hand hitting 3B/RHP who ran an 8.13 60. Open stance, big leg kick trigger, solid balance. Short loose path, hands create bat speed, repeatable traits at the plate. 70 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively projects as a corner infielder, hands played, tall actions at times. Arm played short, 66 mph across the diamond. On the mound he gets to balanced and falls to the plate. Will benefit from a strong lower leg drive. Delivery is from an over the top arm slot. Fastball was 70 mph with good location in and out. He added a 59-60 mph Curve with sweeping break and a 61-63 mph Change to finish his session.

Aidan Otto 3B / RHP / Heritage , CO / 20216-foot-0, 178-pound right hand hitting 3B/RHP who ran an 8.06 60. At the plate he hits from a balanced stance with a slow load on the pitch. Good lower leg drive on the swing. Hands come through the zone with some speed and good extension out front. Exit velocity was 67 mph. In the field he showed good athletic actions and instincts. He has soft hands and a good glove to hand transfer. Uses his size to cover ground and moves well around the bag. Arm was 66 mph across the diamond.

Dylan Otto 1B / RHP / Heritage , CO / 20216-foot-1, 190-pound right hand hitting 1B/RHP who ran an 8.14 60. Open stance, big leg kick trigger, solid balance. Short path, hands create bat speed, projectable traits at the plate. Opens up on the pitch and hits for power to the pull side. 71 mph exit velocity from the tee. Squares up on the ball in the field, showed good feet and throws from a high ¾ arm slot. Good glove to hand transfer and arm played at 67 mph.

Dylan Pyle RHP / 1B / Boulder, CO / 20216-foot-0, 175-pound right hand hitting 1B/RHP who ran an 8.72 60. Stand tall at the plate and loads early. Long stride on the pitch brings weight through the zone on the swing. Strong lower leg drive with an uphill swing path. Exit velocity was 80 mph from the tee. In the field showed good athletic actions and a quick glove to hand transfer. Arm is accurate and was 70 mph across the diamond. Stands tall on the mound and wraps back at balance. Some sink and drive to the plate. Good extension out front on the release and falls off on his follow through. Fastball was 75 mph with slight run. He added a 61-62 mph curve with 11/5 break. He finished with a 69-72 mph change that showed late sink.

Austin Weller LHP / 1B / Discovery Canyon, CO / 20215-foot-8, 125-pound left hand hitting OF/LHP who ran an 8.10 60. Stand tall at the plate with a long stride on the pitch. Stays on the back side during the swing and path is uphill. Long out front at contact and on the finish. Exit velocity was 73 mph. In the field he uses long strides to cut down the angle on the ball. Fields square and come through the ball. Arm is high ¾ and 63 mph from the outfield. Simple set up on the mound, gets balanced and falls to the plate. Stays square on the landing and delivers from an over the top slot. Fastball was 68 mph with some run. Curve was 54-57 mph with sweeping break and he finished with a 64-65 mph change away in the zone.
