Greenwood Village-The Cherry Creek Bruins (5-1 overall) made a valiant comeback against Cherokee Trail (0-2 Overall) when the game appeared all but over on a brutally windy day.

Cherokee took an early 5-2 lead in the top of the 2nd, thanks to a monster grand slam by Jr lead-off hitter Eric Cox.  Sr starting pitcher Jerome Bohannon kept the Bruins at bay allowing only 3 runs through 4 innings pitched, striking out 6 Bruin batters.

In the top of the 4th Cherokee Trail tacked on 4 more runs thanks to a solid hitting day by Sr first baseman Ryan Sullivan (2-4 on the day) and a bases loaded walk that brought in another run.  Cherokee Trail led by a score of 9-3.

Enter the bottom of the 5th, the Bruins began their monster comeback.  Jr catcher Andrew Chavez (2-3 on the day) leads of the inning with a single, follow by a wild pitch to advance the runner and a base on balls to put runners on first and second.  An error by Jr shortstop Michael Morris loads the bases for the Bruins.  A wild pitch scores 1 run with all runners advancing.  The ensuing result was back to back triples by Sr Alex Zhang and Sr utility player Nate Sweeney (2-3 on the day) a total of 3 more runs for the Bruins, bringing them within striking distance with a score of 9-7.

In the top of 6, Cherokee Trail would add 1 run to their lead after a double by Michael Morris (1-2 on the day) who would score on a sacrifice bunt by Sr catcher, Travis Lynch.  Cherokee Trail leads 10-7.  Bottom of 6 the Bruins continue their surge back with an RBI double by Jr OF Jimmy Guckenberger (2-3 on the day) and 2 more runs scoring off of wild pitches which would tie the score up 10-10 through 6 innings of play.

Sr pitcher Javis Steward (3.2 innings pitched) would sit Cherokee Trail down in order in the top of the 7th, giving the Bruins an opportunity to win the game in the 7th.  And that is exactly how it played out, after a bunt single by sophomore Cody Shultz (2-5 on the day), sophomore star Tanner O’Tremba (1-4 on the day) provided the heroics with a double to LF that would score Shultz and secure the comeback victory for the Bruins with a final score of 11-10.
