Atkinson Memorial: Day 1 Notebook

The 1st Year of the Atkinson Memorial had a wealth of Colorado Baseball talent to watch up and down the front range region. From high profile D-1 commits and potential draft picks to uncommitted players looking to impress in front of the many college and pro scouts at different host sites. Below are some highlights of the first day of the Atkinson Memorial.
+ Slammers Martin, a team consisting of 2018's, dominated the competition today going 2-0 scoring 21 runs only giving up 1 run. OF Harris Williams (Denver North) was 5 for 9 at the plate, Kentucky commit 1B Justin Olson (Pine Creek) drove in 5 runs in two games, and Pepperdine commit 3B/RHP Luke Ziegler (Valor Christian) had 5 hits on the day. Ziegler will be on the bump in Sunday action.
+ The Tigers Scout Team went 1-0-1 today. In the first game they won 12-0, Nate Swanson (Northglenn) led the way with a homerun, 2B, and 3 RBI's. Tyler Carpenter (Fairview) pitched 2 scoreless innings in game 2 against Slammers Cronican and Dylan Norsen (Mountain View) was 3-3 with 2 RBI's which ended in a 4-4 tie.
+ Slammers Cronican defeated Lightning Gold 5-1 highlighted by 2019 Parker Gregory who went 2-2 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI's. In game 2 against the Tigers Scout Team Avery Riddoch(Skyline) drove in a run with a double, Nathan Mitchell (Cherry Creek) was 2-3, and Jake Grieving (Legend) was 2-4 with 2 RBI's in the 4-4 tie.
+ Jack Winkler (Chatfield) got a walk off hit for Slammers Zavaras against Cherry Creek in a 1-0 pitching duel. Matt Givin (Rock Canyon) threw 4 scoreless innings for Slammers out-dueling Sam Colehower of Cherry Creek who also threw 4 scoreless innings. Javier Rodriguez (Douglas County) came in relief for Givin throwing 3 scoreless innings himself to get the win. The play of the game was a diving catch in CF from Chase Anderson (Columbine) which ended up doubling up the runner at 1st.
+ Arizona State commit Drake Davis (Ralson Valley) was dominating for the Colorado Rockies Scout Team pitching 3 no-hit innings against Cherokee Trail in first game of the day. In game 2 the Rockies were down 2-1 to South Denver Baseball Academy in the 5th but Illinois State commit Tyson Hays (Grandview) came up with a clutch 2-run single to help lead them to a 6-2 victory.
Other highlights
+ RHP and New Mexico commit Jacob Hilton (Heritage) pitched 4 scoreless innings for Colorado Khaos in 7-0 win against Team Colorado Bard. Arkansas commit Casey Optiz (Heritage) was 4-5 with 2 doubles and 5 RBI's on the day helping Colorado Khaos go 2-0 on the day.
+ In a 6-1 win for Cherry Creek against Colorado Baseball Academy, Andrew Chavez (Cherry Creek) was 2-2 with 2B and RBI, and Cole Blatchford (Mountain Vista) for Cherry Creek was 2-3 with RBI double. Quentin Parr (Cherry Creek) pitched 4 scoreless innings for Cherry Creek with 3 k's.
+ Jose Treto (Brighton) for Slammers Bauer had a stellar day today going 2-3 in game 1 with an RBI in a 6-4 loss to Windsor, and then threw 5 shutout innings against Post 6 select to help secure a 6-2 victory.
+ At the 17U level Kyle Moran (Pine Creek) pitched 6 and 2/3 of no-hit ball in 5-0 win against Lightning Blue, and in Game 2 Denver Matlock (Pine Creek) went 2-3 with 2 double and 3 RBI's in a 11-7 win against Colorado Baseball Academy.
