Ventura, Calif. - The Uncommitted Spotlight Series continues as we forge ahead in the 2024-2025 school year and the looming JR. High School baseball season for our '26 class. With than in mind Prep Baseball California is highlighting some of the top uncommitted class of '26 athletes. The player featured today is one of the top players in the state of California and figures prominently in our Class of 2026 Rankings. All players featured within our Uncommitted Spotlight series are ones that college coaches and fans should be keeping their eyes on over the coming months.

We invite you to get to know them through the eyes of our Prep Baseball California staff of scouts both through our in person looks at players and/or the data-backed numbers collected at our events with our partnered companies. TrackMan, Blast Motion, and Swift Performance provide comparable data to project and evaluate players. All of these systems come together to give a clear picture at what colleges will get when a players steps onto their campus.

Today, we put the spotlight on the number 133 ranked player in the 2026 class in SoCal '26 SS/2B Ty Diaz from West Ranch High School. Diaz has an intriguing athletic build at 6'2 180 lbs. with a wiry build at present showing room to continue adding strength as he matures. Ty displays a solid athletic foundation including a 7.12 60 time while showing explosiveness off the line with a 1.55 10 yard split and 3.87 30 yard split that gives him he potential to stick up the middle athletically long term. As well, his actions on the defensive side with good footwork, ability to move laterally/downhill with body control and softness in his glove to play both 1 and 2 handed profile a SS potential. His arm strength is solid at 81 MPH on the INF presently with accuracy to his throws.

With a profile that looks to be able to stay at a premium position defensively like SS long term and even if he needs a move should stay on the INF dirt at either 2B/3B, the switch hitting profile from Diaz presents an interesting addition to his profile to play baseball at the next level. With an easy compact swing that shows present leverage in the path with balance from each side there is a strong foundation to his operation at the plate. Diaz shows well with his Blast metrics including an average of 66 MPH of bat speed with a max of 69.1 MPH. His hands are quick and loose with 20.1 MPH average hand speed with a peak of 21.4 MPH showing torque in his turn with 10 Gs of rotational acceleration. His solid swing data mixed with his feel for an approach/timing that gears towards hard contact through the middle of the diamond produced solid batted ball data during batting practice at the Future Games Tryout: Orange County. Diaz flashed impact with a 91.6 MPH max EV and a 83.7 MPH avg EV plus a 71% sweet spot rate while spreading his contact evenly through the middle of the diamond showing 60% Fly ball/Line drive rate through batting practice.

Diaz is preparing for his JR. campaign at West Ranch where he  was the starting SS during the 2024 CIF-SS High School season and should slot back in there while taking a prominent place in their offensive line up. With multiple strong live looks both during the High School season and Travel ball season backing up his strong showing at the Future Games Tryout: Orange County Diaz has shown his consistent present foundation that still has upside to his potential there is plenty of reason for people to be keeping close eyes on the rising switch hitting SS out of the very strong West Ranch High School program.
