Today, we put the spotlight on the number 52 ranked player in the 2026 class in NorCal '26 C Wyatt Denton from Las Plumas High School. Denton has made 3 stops on the Prep Baseball California events including the 2022 NorCal Rising Stars Game, 2022 Far North PreSeason ID and the 2023 NorCal Underclass game where he was a consistently impressive performer. Then he took the field as a Soph. at Las Plumas and put together a loud offensive performance playing full time for the Thunderbirds. Denton posted a loud slash line at .453/.515/.686 during the 2024 CIF High School season including intriguing power numbers with 14 of his 39 hits going for extra bases with 9 doubles, 4 triples, and 1 homerun. In addition, he drove in 24 runs while scoring 30 runs with an even walk to strikeout ratio at 8/8. As a Soph. Denton lead the Thunderbirds regulars in average, on base percentage, slugging, hits, triples, RBIs, hit by pitches, while being tied for the lead in homeruns and was second in doubles.
Denton presents an athletic build at 5'11 175 lbs. at present showing room to continue adding strength as he matures. A solid athlete for the catching position he shows the actions in his receiving and blocking to be a solid defender with potential to also be impactful behind the dish. As sound as his receiving profile looks his arm strength was already popping at an impressive level during the fall of his Soph. year when he threw 77 MPH from the catching position with a low of 1.96 on his pop times in late 2023.
Where Denton increases the intrigue to his package of tools profiling him to play baseball at the next level is with his offensive profile. With a sound athletic switch hitting profile his swings from each side show present leverage in the path with emerging raw power in the operation at the plate as backed up by his offensive performance during the 2024 CIF High School season. At the 2023 NorCal Underclass Game Denton showed well with his Blast Motion metrics including an average of 66.5 MPH of bat speed with a max of 70.7 MPH. His hands are quick with 20.8 MPH average hand speed with a peak of 23.2 MPH showing good torque in his turn with 15.3 Gs of rotational acceleration. He produced some intriguing batted ball data during batting practice including raw power with a 89 MPH max EV while showing feel for getting the baseball in the air with 69% or better Line Drive/Fly Ball combined rates at the NorCal Underclass Game event. His present profile suits a gap to gap doubles type approach with high contact/hard contact consistency but shows room to continue adding homerun power as he matures.
Denton is now poised to continue his rise in Northern California entering his JR. year coming off the very strong showing he had throughout the 2024 calendar year. As a switch hitter with upside who profiles to be a solid defender at a premium spot Denton is a top name to follow out of NorCal in the '26 class.
