Ventura, Calif. - The Uncommitted Spotlight Series takes a dive back into the 2025 class as this class is inching closer to their final seasons of High School baseball there are still several talented uncommitted players in this class who our staff has had the opportunity to see compete. Our player today was standout performer at one of our recent Fall Uncommitted Games Series of events in locations around the state including NorCal, Orange County and Ventura County.

We invite you to get to know the players featured here through the eyes of our Prep Baseball California staff of scouts both through our in person looks at players and/or the data-backed numbers collected at our events with our partnered companies. TrackMan, Blast Motion, and Swift Performance provide comparable data to project and evaluate players. All of these systems come together to give a clear picture at what colleges will get when a players steps onto their campus.

Today, we head back to Southern California to put the spotlight on a strong performer from the Orange Uncommitted Game event for the 2025 class in SoCal '25 SS/2B Dylan Wetzel from Mater Dei High School who is also ranked 124 in the '25 Class for Prep Baseball California. Entering the event Wetzel was coming off a JR. campaign at Mater Dei High School which saw him garner significant playing time as a key piece in the lineup of a CIF-SS D1 2nd round playoff team. The RH hitter then went on to have a very strong summer with TB  SoCal on the tournament circuit, but as part of the recent NCAA D1 roster size rule change reopened his recruitinment from a previous NCAA D1 verbal commitment.

Defensively, his present athleticism included a 7.2 60 time that includes 1.71 10 yard and 3.97 30 yard splits with a top speed of 18.8 MPH with sound actions to his footwork, angles and glove give him an up the middle defensive profile on the INF dirt with some potential to handle SS.

The RH hitter has a athlet build at 6' and 185 lbs which builds into his offensive profile. During BP he showcased a quality swing with some average bat speed at 65.5 MPH while peaking at 71.8 MPH which suits his high contact gap to gap approach with some impact potential to the pull side. As well, he shows quickness to his hands and the ability to use them in the swing averaging 19.3 MPH and peaking at 20.3 MPH on his hand speeds. His turn is solid with present ability to build up to his top bat speed with a peak of 14.2 Gs of max rotational acceleration while averaging 11.3 Gs. The foundation of a compact accurate swing played into the quality of his batted ball data during batting practice where he displayed a sound present approach with feel for hard contact. Wetzel peaked at 95.5 MPH on his exit velocity with an average of 90.2 MPH. As well, he demonstrated consistency getting the baseball in the air with a 63% Fly ball/Line drive rate and hard contact quality with a 63% hard hit rate.

Wetzel figures again to be a prominent piece of the Mater Dei High lineup in his SR. campaign where he will look to build upon his solid JR. campaign facing off against top level competition both in the Trinity League and all of Southern California. With athleticism, some strength in his bat and a potential premium defensive profile that all combine to make Wetzel a name to keep eyes on for college programs still looking for up the middle profile players in the 2025 class.
