Ventura, Calif. - The Uncommitted Spotlight Series takes a dive back into the 2025 class as this class is inching closer to their final seasons of High School baseball there are still several talented uncommitted players in this class who our staff has had the opportunity to see compete. Our player today was standout performer at one of our recent Fall Uncommitted Games Series of events in locations around the state including NorCal, Orange County and Ventura County.

We invite you to get to know the players featured here through the eyes of our Prep Baseball California staff of scouts both through our in person looks at players and/or the data-backed numbers collected at our events with our partnered companies. TrackMan, Blast Motion, and Swift Performance provide comparable data to project and evaluate players. All of these systems come together to give a clear picture at what colleges will get when a players steps onto their campus.

Today, we put the spotlight on a strong performer from the Ventura County Uncommitted Game event for the 2025 class in SoCal '25 LHP/OF Mason Berlinger from Westlake High School. Entering the event Berlinger was coming off a JR. campaign at Westlake which saw him contribute successfully as a significant role player on a Marmonte League title team which spent the entirety of the year ranked amongst the Prep Baseball California Power 25 rankings. Berlinger slashed .381/.422/.404 in 21 games played with 1 double and 9 runs scored over 42 at bats in his JR. season. As well, he made a clean 1 inning appearance on the mound with 2 Ks. Now with a bevy of Seniors from the 2024 team graduated and moved on to college baseball Berlinger will be counted on to maintain his success while playing a prominent role amongst the lineup/rotation for the Westlake program in the 2025 CIF high school season.

Berling showed very well across the board for the Prep Baseball California staff at the Ventura County Uncommitted Game Event. The athletic built and projectable 6'2 180 lbs. lefthander showed off a smooth quick arm which has potential working at 81-83 MPH consistently while showing heavy arm side run with almost 19" of horizontal movement on his FB, but also the spin rate/ride (2200+ RPMs and 15.8" of IVB) to work the pitch up in the zone. Berlinger shows an easy operation at present to get to his velocity, but shows the profile to continue adding more velocity/life in the future should he focus solely on pitching at the next level. Backing up his upside FB is a 70-72 MPH SLD which shows horizontal action (14" of horizontal break on average with a max of 16.2") with its movement pattern giving the feel of a sweeping type SLD shape. He showed a CHG during warm-ups but did not throw it during the game play portion. His profile and attributes as a quality lefthanded arm gives one plenty of intrigue about his future on the mound as southpaw who looks to have a starters potential.

As solid as his outing was on the mound don't write off the tools that Berlinger shows as a LH hitting OF. During BP he showcased an intriguing swing with solid present average bat speed at 69.7 MPH while peaking at 75.3 MPH which gives him power potential. As well, he shows quickness to his hands and the ability to use them in the swing averaging 21.2 MPH and peaking at 24 MPH on his hand speeds through the swing allowing them to stay back and adapt to pitches. His turn is quick with ability to build up to his top bat speed with present 16.2 Gs of max rotational acceleration while averaging 13.3 Gs. The foundation of a quality swing played into the quality of his batted ball data during batting practice where he displayed a sound present approach with feel for timing. Berlinger peaked at 96.3 MPH on his exit velocity with an average of 88.6 MPH and an impressive 57% hard hit rate showing consistency to hitting the baseball with authority. Add in a 71% Fly ball/Line drive rate the hard contact taht Berlinger produces is consistently in the air to the outfield including a max distance of 343'. He showed that his swing/approach play in game as well as they do in batting practice as he laced a loud triple to the RCF gap.

Defensively, his present athleticism including a 7.4 60 time with sound actions to his footwork, angles and glove give him a corner OF defensive profile and the 83 MPH OF arm velocity with accuracy could give him a chance to potentially handle RF in the future. As well, he shows the potential to also possibly slide onto the INF dirt and handle playing 1B.

With his SR. campaign quickly approaching Berlinger is a strong uncommitted two-way out of SoCal that college programs should be keeping eyes on for additions to either their lineup, pitching staff or possibly both. Whatever the role he lands in for a future program Berlinger is a quality player to bolster a college programs future.
