The Uncommitted Spotlight Series continues as the calendar has turned over and the start of the '24 CIF High School baseball season is quickly approaching we are highlighting some of the top uncommitted class of '24 athletes. The players featured are pulled directly from our '24 Class Rankings and remain as the top players left on the board going into the start of their senior season.
We invite you to get to know them through the eyes of our PBR California staff of scouts and the data-backed numbers collected at our events with our partnered companies. TrackMan, Blast Motion, Swift Performance, and Visual Edge provide comparable data to project and evaluate players. All of these systems come together to give a clear picture at what colleges will get when a players steps onto their campus.
Today, we put the spotlight on a SoCal '24 OF/C Ryan DeMartino out of La Costa Canyon in San Diego. Checking in at 6'1 185 lbs. with some present strength to his frame combined with solid overall athletic ability, but still room for future projection. His toolset is carried by his bats potential to generate impact within a lineup. He shows solid overall offensive metrics with a max 89.3 MPH exit velocity and 22.7 MPH hand speed with a consistent feel for finding the barrel of his bat with a 78% sweet spot metric. He gets there from a balanced swing featuring a quick turn of the hips/hands with leverage in the path geared to drive the baseball through the middle of the field. Displays good rhythm/timing which will help him be a consistent bat to ball offensive performer. Their is the strength in his frame to flash pull side HR power while collecting high contact rates with doubles power to the middle/oppo portion of the field. DeMartino has experience catching/on the infield, but projects best as a Corner OF prospect with potentially enough arm strength (83 MPH OF arm velocity) to handle RF while being an offensive threat for a college lineup. Should have a good spring competing on the competitive San Diego HS baseball scene to be a good add for a college program with his offensive ability and defensive versatility.
College coaches and fans be sure to click on DeMartino's profile to see full video and statistics.
