GAME RECAP:

Team California was the designated visitor for the matchup and after putting one runner on base without a run in the top half they took the field with '26 RHP/INF Caleb Trugman toeing the rubber as the first arm up. The imposing 6'5 Trugman sports a prototype pitchers frame to go with his two-way toolset today, but his arm stood out with a 2 inning appearance. During his time on the bump he sported a Fastball in the 87-91 MPH range which he filled up the zone with while mixing in his 66-68 MPH CB as the primary secondary for the day. He notched one strikeout and allowed 2 baserunners while inducing a double play ball to go scoreless for his two frame.

After Trugman departed the Dick's Sporting Goods Player of the Game '26 LHP Parker Allman entered to put on a dominant display during his 2 innings of work. The 6' 185 lbs Allman picked up 5 strikeouts while the lone ball put in play was a soft comebacker to him in the first inning of work. Working predominatly off his FB/SLD combo which he shows both control of and flash swing/miss action while dropping in a CHG he quickly dispatched the hitters from Team Nevada. On the day his FB worked at 86-89 MPH while spinning the SLD at 77-80 MPH including peak spin rates of 2700+ RPMs and his CHG was at 80 MPH. It was an electric day for the Saugus Centurion lefthander ahead of the Aug. 1st contact date for the 2026 class.

With both teams posting zeros over the first few innings Team California was able to break through first on the strength of a blast from '26 C/OF Warren Gravely when the right hand hitter from Santa Margarita Catholic battled 7 pitches deep into a 2K count before getting ahold of an elevated breaking ball to deposit it well over the LCF fence for a 2 run homer to put Team California up 2-0.

After Team Nevada was able to tie the game in the following inning with 2 runs of their own '26 RHP/OF Jackson Campbell settled in for a strong second inning of work. Campell attacked hitters with a FB in the 85-89 MPH range while dropping in his 69-72 MPH CB for a 3-up 3-down second frame including ending his day with strikeout looking to keep the score knotted at 2 runs apiece.

Team California would respond with a run in the following inning when '26 C/INF Michael Nonis squared up a hard one hop ground ball to SS with runners on 2nd/3rd to put Team California back on top headed into the final innings of the game. They were able to extend their lead on a 2 run double by '27 OF Ira Rootman who punched a ball to RF which dropped in front of the RF and kicked away to put Team California up 5-2 which was the final score.

With the lead in place '26 RHP/INF Kai Van Scoyoc took the mound to work 1 clean inning of relief to finish the game. An athletic 2-way player out of Palos Verdes High School Van Scoyoc showed his 3 pitch mix over his time on the mound. Starting with a FB in the 86-89 MPH range that pairs well with his 76-78 MPH SLD which continues to trend up as his velocity continues to go up this summer. For good measure he added in a 71-73 MPH CB for his 3rd pitch. Allowing a leadoff single Kai would get a fly ball to CF followed by a 4-U-3 double play to close out the game for Team California as they earned their first win of the 2024 Prep Baseball Future Games.

Next up for Team California will be a tilt with Team Arizona on Friday before closing out their time at Future Games with a Saturday game against the Team Select squad.
