Cypress, Calif.- This past weekend Prep Baseball California continued the fall slate of events with a trip to Orange County for the OC Uncommitted Game. With athletes from the '25-'26 class coming together to participate in a showcase workout and then live game action on the campus of Cypress College in Orange County. 

The day got started with a Pro-Style showcase workout for all position players/two-way players in attendance. Players received athletic testing on the Swift platforms including 10-30-60 yard sprint times and RSI/Vertical Jump testing. Blast Motion sensors were in use for all batting practice swings to collect swing metric data while Trackman technologies provided the Prep Baseball California staff with batted ball data on each player throughout the batting practice portion. As well, players worked out at their positions during the defensive portion of the workout to collect arm strength velocities while evaluating actions of each player defensively. At the conclusion of the workout the 15 pitchers in attendance stepped on the mound to face 5 hitters each in simulated live game play which gave our staff a look at the in game hitting, defense, pitching and base-running abilities of the players in performance.

OC UNCOMMITTED GAME TOP PERFORMERS:

Osvaldo Nunez RHP / 1B / Notre Dame High School, CA / 2026 Nunez checks in with a prototype 6'3 pitchers frame that shows a good present build with 185 lbs. on his frame and room to add more. Toeing the rubber to  face 5 hitters at Cypress College the rising righthander out of the Notre Dame High (Sherman Oaks) pitching pipeline showed his potential to be one of the next names to know out the program. With a FB that peaked at 90.5 MPH while sitting 88-89 MPH over his outing that peaks above 2400 RPMs of spin. He was able to consistently attack the zone with his FB generating called strikes and in zone swing/miss on his way to 4 K's over 5 hitters faced. His CHG looked to be his best secondary on this outing coming in at 80-82 MPH with around 1600 RPMs of spin and nearly 20" of horizontal fade to the pitch. Nunez has an interesting 68-70 MPH CB which shows more present horizontal break than vertical break that will need to be polished as he goes forward, but he showed the ability to throw it for strikes. The foundation on Nunez looked impressive during his outing and he will be one to keep eyes on moving forward.

Riley Moran RHP / Norco High, CA / 2026 Moran popped on the radar of the Prep Baseball California staff with a strong showing earlier this year in a bullpen at the OC Preseason ID in January. Nearly 10 months later the 6'3 prototype righthander out of the Inland Empire returned to throw in front of our staff showing off impressive improvements to his frame adding strength throughout (up 15 lbs.) which translated to increased life on his pitch arsenal. Moran ran his FB up to 88.3 MPH with life out of the hand and ride to the profile (2457 RPM max spin/18.6" of IVB max) while pitching consistently at 85-87 MPH and attacking the strike zone. He paired the quality FB with an emerging SLD that he throws in the 70-74 MPH range while getting 11.3" of horizontal break on the pitch. Moran previously has shown a quality CHG, but did not use it during his OC Uncommitted Game outing. The results back up the trending upward profile for Moran as he punched out 3 of the 5 hitters he faced while inducing a soft grounder to SS for a 6-3 putout for the other out with one hitter reaching on a 3-2 walk.

Blake Helsper C / Canyon High, CA / 2025 LH hitters are always valued by college programs and when they show the defensive profile to stick at a premium spot like catcher they become more intriguing from programs looking to add offensive/defensive value. Helsper showed his ability to fit this mold with one of the strongest position player performances on the day. It started with a very strong defensive workout where he showed consistent 2.0-2.05 pop times with 76 MPH C arm velocity and low carry to his throws. From there Helsper took a very strong batting practice with a compact direct LH swing that consistently hit the ball hard from the middle/pull side of the field with a line drive based swing. Helsper peaked at 91.8 MPH on Trackman, but also averaged 84.8 MPH exit velocity with a 358' max distance on a ball that hit the top of the RCF wall. Once the game started the LH hitter showed his hit tool plays in game as well as it does in batting practice by singling to the right side of the field in his first two plate appearances while managing the various pitchers he caught throught the day with ease.

Jackson Pratt OF / LHP / ST FRANCIS HIGH SCHOOL, CA / 2025 Pratt was a prominent contributor to the St. Francis High (La Canada) program that made a run to the CIF-SS D4 title game and the showed very well during a stop at the Ventura County Summer ID and the LH hitting OF showed well in OC with another strong performance. He started out the day running a 6.83 60 on the wet OF grass with 20.2 max run speed which he showed running down baseballs all over the OF during batting practice and in game giving him a CF defensive profile while adding 86 MPH OF arm velocity. Pratt showed his versatility during BP going middle/oppo throughout his first round with hard line drive contact before turning on the baseball with authority to the pull side in his second round. The LH hitter peaked at 92.7 MPH on exit velocity while averaging 86.6 MPH during batting practice with a quality swing that shows up to 20.5 MPH hand speed, 69.8 MPH bat speed and 23.4 Gs of rotational acceleration. Once the game started he strung together good at bats throughout the day which was highlighted by a hard line drive to the LCF gap that he flashed his run tool on by pushing it for a standup double.

Wyatt Mohler 3B / RHP / Los Osos High, CA / 2026 Mohler came into the event with plenty of intrigue for our staff to get eyes on the talented two-way player out of the strong Los Osos program and the wiry athletic built 5'11 175 lbs. Mohler did not disappoint with his performance on the day. He looked solid during the defensive workout with good feet, hands that work and 82 MPH INF arm velocity that gives him the long term potential to stick at 3B. During BP he showed off his simple operation at the plate with a quiet load and direct quick bat path that features loud contact when he is on the barrel. Mohler peaked at 97.2 MPH on his exit velocity while drilling multiple line drives to the LCF gap that jump off the bat with back spin and carry. Wyatt stung a few balls during the game play portion event including pulling a hard single through the left side of the INF to drive in a run for the final hit of the day. While showing a good profile as a position player one shouldn't discount what he shows as righthander on the bump. Mohler ran his FB up to 85.2 MPH sitting in the 84 MPH range throughout his 5 hitters while pairing it with a sweeping 71-73 MPH SLD that averages 14.3" of horizontal break while peaking at 18.5" of horizontal break on the pitch. The FB/SLD combo was his predominant pitch mix, but he did show an interesting 75-76 MPH CHG that showed potential. Mohler has intriguing potential on each side of the game and is one that college programs should be keeping eyes on.

Malakye Matsumoto SS / 3B / NOTRE DAME HIGH SCHOOL, CA / 2026 Matsumoto was another interesting two-way prospect who showed well on each side of the game during his performance at the OC Uncommitted Game. Checking in at 6'4 190 lbs. there is plenty to like about the present and future profile for Matsumoto who showed well athletically with a 7.22 60 on a wet OF grass track while showing a 1.63 10 yard split and 3.94 30 yard split that goes with a 28.6" vertical jump. He flashed the actions in his feet/hands and the arm strength (85 MPH INF velo) that give him a left side of the dirt profile. Matsumoto showed well at the plate both during batting practice including 95.3 MPH max exit velocity with a 87.6 MPH average exit velocity from a swing with bat speed (73.1 MPH) and quickness with the hands (21.3 MPH) and during the game play portion as he picked up a pair of hits to the opposite side of the field early in the day. As intriguing as Matsumoto looked as a position player he was equally as impressive if not potentially even more so during his outing on the mound. Running his FB up to 89.4 MPH while sitting at 86-88 MPH that has movement both with ride and run in the profile. His primary secondary is a softer 70-73 MPH SLD which shows potential because of his ability to control the pitch in the zone, but will need to be polished to reach its full potential. A good athlete with a well rounded set of tools on both sides of the game Matsumoto is another impressive piece coming out of the Notre Dame High (Sherman Oaks) program.

Sol Moriyama 2B / SS / Huntington Beach High, CA / 2026 Again a LH hitter who shows a good offensive profile with the potential to play an up the middle defensive position is a profile that will get the attention of college coaches and Moriyama shows the foundation of this profile. A compact framed 5'9 156 lbs. middle infielder his tools don't jump off the board, but his ability to combine them all during the workout and game play show the upside for Moriyama. During the defensive work he moved smoothly laterally/downhill with rhythm to his feet and soft hands that go into a quick transfer with ability to throw from different arm slots. His arm strength isn't loud, but his quick transfer with an arm that flashes accuracy he looks like a strong 2B defender with SS potential if he can add athleticism/arm strength as he matures. Moriyama uses his lower 1/2 effectively during his swing with 13.8 Gs of rotational acceleration combined with a direct bat path he showed hard line drive contact to the middle of  the field consistently during BP including a peak exit velocity of 92.3 MPH and 340' max distance on a line drive to the pull side gap. He stays to his strength in game working the middle of the field with leverage in his path which he highlighted by lacing a 93 MPH double to the RCF gap early in the game.

Jake Vanderzee 2B / 3B / El Dorado High, CA / 2025 Another uncommitted SR. out of the strong El Dorado High program in Orange County Vanderzee matched his teammate Helsper with a strong showing at the event. Solidly built at 6' 180 lbs. with strength in his lower 1/2 Vanderzee looks like an offensive profile RH hitter who could play 2B on the INF dirt of potentially 1B/LF if he needs to make a move. With a strong showing during the batting practice portion of the day where he drilled hard line drives through the gaps with quickness in his hands/bat (20.6 MPH hand speed/71.3 MPH bat speed) with a leverage based swing he peaked at 93.2 MPH on exit velocity and averaged 86.2 MPH. Vanderzee was consistent with the sweet spot approaching nearly 70% while generating a 44% line drive rate during BP. His approach showed well in game with a single to RCF and some other very good plate appearances.

Trevor Deack SS / 2B / Orange Lutheran, CA / 2026 Another compact framed middle of the diamond defender out of a talented high school program Deack showed very well during his day at the OC Uncommitted event. Standing 5'9 and weighting 160 lbs. Deack shows well rounded tools that carry his profile above his medium build. With good footwork showing sound hands with an accurate arm he looks best suited for a 2B profile, but with some increases to his athleticism/arm strength could make a move to the left side of the dirt in the future. His defensive profile is solid, but his offensive potential raised his stock on this day. Deack shows some explosiveness in his swing including 21.5 MPH hand speed, 74 MPH bat speed and 16.6 Gs of rotational acceleration which combined with his approach/timing and barrel feel generates consistent hard contact through the gaps with carry. His peak exit velocity was at 95.4 MPH, but even more impressive Deack averaged 90.4 MPH including a 354' line drive rocket and the RH hitter showed a 100% sweet spot rate and a 100% Fly ball/Line Drive rate during batting practice. Once the game started he showed he was far from just a BP hitter as he stung a few balls for outs while collecting a hard line drive single to RF as one of the better offensive performers of the day.
