NorCal Underclass Game: Catchers Reports

ISLANDERS FIELD, LATHROP, CALIF. - The 2023 NorCal Underclass Game took place on Saturday, September 30th at Islanders Field. This event included a traditional showcase workout followed by live at-bats for the pitchers and hitters, with each hitter getting two at-bats.

Continuing our post-event coverage of the NorCal Underclass Game, we take a look at the catchers that were in attendance. Continue to check back over the coming days as we will continue to release scouting reports for every player in attendance.
CATCHER SCOUTING REPORTS

Gino Cappellazzo C / 3B/P / St. Francis, CA / 2026
Positional Profile: C/3B/P Body: 6-3, 185-pounds. Long body with projectable proportions, budding muscularity. Hit: RHH. Even set up in wide stance, high hand set over back knee. Physical to pull side with present pop to LF and CF. Consistent barrels. 69.8 mph avg bat speed with 17.3 avg G's of rotational acceleration. Power: 97.2 max exit velocity, averaged 93.6 mph. 350' max distance. Arm: RH. C-78 mph. 3B-87 mph. Presently strong arm, clean release with efficient arm action, throws track with pace and accuracy at C and from 3B. Defense: 2.04-2.13 pop times. Consistent C/T mechanics, clean feet, in-line to target, agile behind plate, strong soft hands, nuanced feel for receiving, at 3B gets ball out fairly quickly, tends to move on heels at 3B though moves confidently. ATH: 7.40 runner in the 60. 1.70 and 4.00 in the 10 and 30 yard splits.

Cameron Clouse C / 3B / Woodcreek, CA / 2026
Positional Profile: C/3B Body: 6-3, 185-pounds. Lean muscularity throughout. Hit: RHH. Even set-up in medium wide stance, back knee bent, shoulder height hands over backside. Knee lift out to stride, sweeps barrel into zone in pull side focused BP round, has developing physicality, slashed ball to RF in live-AB, 65.3 mph avg bat speed with 3.3 avg G's of rotational acceleration. Power: 86.9 max exit velocity, averaged 79.1 mph. 273' max distance. Arm: RH. C-68 mph. 3/4 release, elbow/hand deep behind head, tailing action on one hop pops. Defense: 2.33-2.41 pop times. Strong legs, efficient in-line footwork, has agility, calm confident receiver. ATH: 7.68 runner in the 60. 1.82 and 4.27 in the 10 and 30 yard splits.

Wyatt Denton C / SS / Las Plumas, CA / 2026
Positional Profile: C/SS Body: 5-10, 160-pounds. Lean build with wiry strength and athleticism. Hit: SH. As LHH open set-up in wide stance, strides back to even, hands just above shoulder, fluid swing, pull side pop, showed XBH pop in live-ABs, got to FB and offspeed, as RHH open set-up in wide stance, high hands, deep load, transfers weight to front side, 66.5 mph avg bat speed with 10.0 avg G's of rotational acceleration. Power: 89 max exit velocity, averaged 82.1 mph. 316' max distance. Arm: RH. C-77 mph. Strong arm, clean efficient quick transfer, high 3/4 release, accurate and is a threat to baserunners. Defense: 1.96-2.07 pop times. Wide knees and deep into hips in set-up, agile and athletic, quick feet, versatile receiving set-ups, presents inviting target. ATH: 7.37 runner in the 60. 1.68 and 4.01 in the 10 and 30 yard splits.

Jarett Hackney C / 1B / Twelve Bridges, CA / 2026
Positional Profile: C/1B Body: 6-0, 160-pounds. Long body, lanky proportions, projectable for future size and strength. Hit: RHH. Open set-up, medium width feet, knees bent, bat resting over shoulder, negative weight shift with deep load before getting out to long stride landing slightly open while rolling outside of front foot through finish, displayed some pull side power with projectable raw power, 61.5 mph avg bat speed with 12.4 avg G's of rotational acceleration. Power: 89.8 max exit velocity, averaged 84.7 mph. 291' max distance. Arm: RH. C-72. Developing arm strength, overhand release, around bag with some throws carrying to bag and others long hopping to target. Defense: 2.17-2.39 pop times. Can sit quite low, works well from below the ball, confident in glove skills. ATH: 7.77 runner in the 60. 1.85 and 4.27 in the 10 and 30 yard splits.

Parker Jessup C / RHP / Hillsdale, CA / 2027
Positional Profile: C/P Body: 5-11, 155-pounds. Lean body, lower waist, fairly wide shoulders given his youth. Hit: RHH. Even set-up with wide stance, hands slightly above shoulder, medium lift out to stride, quiet hands with small compact load, can repeat the hand path, line drive plane. 61.9 mph avg bat speed with 9.7 avg G's of rotational acceleration. Power: 84.8 max exit velocity, averaged 79.9 mph. 274' max distance. Arm: RH. C-72 mph. Developing arm strength, lower slot, slingshot type arm action, some tailing action as ball approaches target. Defense: 2.11-2.18 pop times. Willing and capable blocker, received cleanly, various set-up positions, footwork takes him toward RHH box in C/T mechanics. ATH: 7.86 runner in the 60. 1.85 and 4.31 in the 10 and 30 yard splits.

AJ Wineinger C / OF / St. Ignatius College Prep, CA / 2026
Positional Profile: C/OF Body: 5-11, 175-pounds. Lean strength, well-proportioned throughout. Hit: RHH. Open set-up, shoulder width feet, deep in box off the plate, hands held off body in front, deep load of hands as he employs high knee lift out to long stride, wristy stroke through contact, quiet head, has body control even with some moving parts, has some present power and projects for more in future. 65.0 mph avg bat speed with 8.0 avg G's of rotational acceleration. Power: 91.3 max exit velocity, averaged 89.9 mph. 338' max distance. Arm: RH. C-73 mph. Quick exchange, developing arm strength but gets some air under it and was around bag for the MIF to make a play. Defense: 2.07-2.15 pop times. Pops to in-line feet in C/T mechanics, agile in set-ups to receive, can get extended leg on the ground, works from below ball well, strong hands. ATH: 7.32 runner in the 60. 1.78 and 4.06 in the 10 and 30 yard splits.
