This weeks match up from NorCal Sac-Joaquin Section Game of the Week features a pair of undefeated teams with Oakdale taking on Central Catholic in a 3 game series in the Valley Oak League.

Game Preview:  Both programs enter this league matchup running on the strength of very good starts to their 2024 seasons. Each team features a powerful offense with Central Catholic hitting .344 as a team with an OBP at .452 and SLG at .466 while Oakmont sports a .306 team average with an OBP at .477 and a SLG at .473 and there could be plenty of offensive fireworks in the matchup with each team averaging over 7 runs a game. Despite the strength of each teams offensive firepower runs could be hard to come by with a pair of stellar pitching staffs toeing the rubber for each side. Both staffs are allowing less than 3 runs a game on average. Sophomore Griffin Costa is hitting .500 on the season with 8 RBIs and 12 runs scored and his fellow sophomore teammate Landon Schutte is hitting .400 with 15 RBIs, 3 HRs and 7 runs scored to power the Oakdale offense. While seniors power the Central Catholic offense with Adrian Garcia hitting .538  and 4 extra base hits in 4 games, TP Wentworth and Seth Van Dyk are each hitting .455. For Oakdale senior Trey Parsons and junior Ayden Ardis front the rotation with ERAs under 3.00 and junior Jordan Haver is averaging over 2 K's per inning pitched with 18 in 8.2 innings. Central Catholic sophomore Kayden McHenry leads the team with 9 IP and has a 3.11 ERA with seniors TP Wentworth and Wesley Payne each averaging 1 K per inning pitched so far early in the spring.
