GAME RECAP:
With their record standing at 2-0 heading into the final day of game play Team California looked at a potential undefeated appearance at the 2024 Prep Baseball Future Games. The day started with '26 RHP Jensen Hirschkorn taking the mound first for his two innings of work. The 6'7 long limbed highly projectable Hirschkorn is ranked #12 in the 2026 class in the state of California. He started out working with a FB at 88-92 MPH early in the outing before settling in at 85-88 later in the appearance. He mixed in a 74-76 MPH SLD as his primary secondary during game action while showcasing a 79-80 MPH CHG during warm ups. His FB features sink/run which can get under barrels for ground ball contact when down in the zone including picking up a 4-6-3 double play to close out the 1st inning.

From there the Golden State squad went to '26 RHP Dustin Dunwoody who continues to show well as he raises his stock in the '26 rankings in the state of California. A wiry athletic 6'2 170 lbs. frame with loose quick arm speed Dunwoody attacked predominantly with his 86-89 MPH FB that showed spin rates above 2400 RPMs consistently while getting swing/miss from hitters. He complimented his high spin FB with a second high spin pitch in his 2600+ RPM SLD at 76-79 that touches 2700 RPMs while showing a CB/CHG combo during warmups. Dunwoody nearly became the third Team California pitcher to strike out 5 in his outing as he punched out 4 and had a chance at 5 late in his appearance. He showed ability to get soft contact in addition to swing/miss with a strong appearance on the Future Games stage.

Third up on the mound for Team California was another big framed projectable arm in '26 RHP Blake Killinger who checks in at 6'7 with an athletic frame. Killinger worked a pair of innings that showed his upside including a FB at 86-90 MPH with heavy sink downhill in the zone and a 79-80 MPH SLD to compliment it. He worked around some early trouble to allow just 1 run in the 2 innings including picking up 3 strikeouts during his work to leave with the game tied at 3-3.

Closing out the day on the mound were a pair of 1 inning stints from two separate two-way players as '26 INF/RHP Kai Van Scoyoc worked his second inning on the weekend. While not as clean as his work against Team Nevada Van Scoyoc continues to spin a very impressive SLD which comes in at 76-79 MPH with spin rates in the high 2700's and low 2800's RPM ranges. From there '26 C/RHP Gino Cappellazzo toed the rubber for his one inning of work on the weekend in which he went 3-up 3-down on the back of a 87-89 MPH FB that showed run to the arm side to get in on the hands of RH hitters while adding in a 77-79 MPH CHG with fade to the arm side tunneling well of his FB.

The bats for Team California produced 5 hits on the day with a pair of extra base hits. '26 OF Camden Goetz had been on the barrel all week both in batting practice and in game, but had not gotten anything to fall, but today the LH hitter drilled a loud double to the LCF gap which short hopped the fence about 370' away showing his developing power to go with the barrel feel he displayed throughout Future Games. '26 INF/RHP Caleb Trugman struck the big blow for the Team California offense when he took a 2K pitch down the RF line to clear the bases for a 3 RBI double before being thrown out trying to stretch it into a triple. The scoring concluded in the 8th inning when '26 INF/RHP Kai Van Scoyoc displayed his smooth opposite field hitting approach by driving a single into the RCF gap to plate a run mimicking his leadoff double from game 2 against Team Arizona.
