FULLERTON, CALIF. - Last weekend was the 6th annual edition of the California State Games the premier invite-only event in California, hosted at Fullerton College. This event brought together top players from the '25-'28 classes together in one location to conclude the summer schedule across California before the start of school and the fall events schedule.
The collection of talent that was on display in Orange County for the CA State Games was quite impressive. The weekend got started with a pro-style workout for all position players/two-way players in attendance. Players received athletic testing on the Swift platforms including 10-30-60 yard sprint times and RSI/Vertical Jump testing. Blast Motion sensors were in use for all batting practice swings to collect swing metric data while Trackman technologies provided the Prep Baseball California staff with batted ball data on each player throughout the batting practice portion. Additionally, players worked out at their positions during the defensive portion of the workout to collect arm strength velocities while evaluating actions of each player defensively. At the conclusion of the workout 8 teams organized by the Prep Baseball California staff would play two 8-inning simulated games (5 batters per inning) spanning 8 total games over the 3 day event to give our staff an extensive opportunity to continue to build their in-game evaluations of the players in attendance at the California State Games.

CATEGORICAL LEADERS
Max Fastball Velocity
The maximum velocity of the pitch measured right at release.
Max Fastball Spin Rate
The max amount of revolutions per minute (rpm) of a pitch. For fastballs, a higher rpm causes the ball to drop less due to gravity, this gives the illusion of a rising pitch.
Max Curveball Velocity
Like many things in baseball, the faster the better. A fast off-speed pitch while maintaining traditional movement patterns makes the pitch harder to hit. The measured velocity for this metric is right as the pitch leaves the hand.
Max Curveball Spin Rate
The spin rate for a curveball tends to be the highest among all the pitches in a pitcher's arsenal. A higher spin rate, measured in rpms, on a curveball generally means more downward movement when combined with the top spin of the pitch.
Max Slider Velocity
Sliders generally are faster than most other off-speed pitches with less overall movement. This metric measures the speed of the slider when it comes out of the hand.
Max Slider Spin Rate
The higher the spin rate for a horizontal pitch like the slider means that it will have more movement from right to left for a right handed pitcher. This metric measures the maximum spin rate of a pitcher's slider in rpms.
Max Changeup Velocity
This metric determines the speed of a changeup as it is released from the pitcher's hand.
Max Changeup Spin Rate
This metric shows how fast the ball is spinning during the pitch, measured by rpms.
