THE FIVE: Uncommitted 2020 Catchers - N. California
December 7, 2018
As we've mentioned before, college programs can never know about too many catchers. It is an interesting position due to all the nuances of playing the position well. Some catchers stand out early in their development due to big tools, in particular arm strength and low pop times. Others show the arm strength with the potential for some power in the bat.
All of that is great, no doubt. However, when it comes down to it, college coaches want catchers who are willing to do the dirty work, willing to work hard and be a leader. They want catchers who put in the effort to block balls in the dirt and keep strikes in the zone and steal a few others. Having big tools is a bonus. This position is really about being a grinder, a leader and working to develop the skills necessary to help win ballgames.
Today we feature five uncommitted 2020 catchers; Ricky Damico, Omar Plascencia, Sean Loder, Joey Taddie, and Ketan Bagade.
