THE FIVE: Uncommitted 2019 Infielders - N. California

Blaine Clemmens
Northern California Director of Scouting

One position is always a priority for college programs, and that is shortstop. Generally speaking, shortstops at the high school level are a team's best athlete. Not all stay at shortstop beyond high school, obviously, but their athleticism and tools so often translate to other positions; 2nd base, 3rd base, centerfield, catcher, pitcher, etc.

Given how many former shortstops are in the game, both at the college and pro levels, it makes all the sense in the world that if an uncommitted and talented shortstop pops up, college programs will find a way to get those players on their rosters.

Please take a look at five infielders (including a 3rd baseman) we feel will have an opportunity to play baseball at the collegiate level; Trevor Heyn, Jackson Forbes, Marek Palladino, Brian Gregersen, and Shane White.
