THE FIVE: N. California Preseason All-State Pitchers
January 31, 2019
STOCKTON, CA - As we begin up position analysis we will take a look at some standouts from each position in our series THE FIVE. Today we take a look at standout pitchers from the Northern California preseason event. These pitchers weren't the only standouts, but the staff collaborated and these pitchers made the strongest impressions. Earlier we posted a Quick Hits story with multiple early standouts from the day. We also previously released our stats leaders.
Today we look to dig a little deeper into the six (yes, a bonus to THE FIVE!) pitchers who we feel have a chance to be standout college pitchers. Players are listed in no particular order.

Scouting Report
1/27/19 - PBR N CA Preseason All-State - Streamlined long and lanky 6-foot-1 165-pounds, athletically wiry and somewhat twitchy with ample room to fill out the upper body, presently ranked #59 in state, competed as a two-way player, on mound has short lift of stride leg, loose arm with long backside arm action that is fairly deep, gets to a high-3/4 release, fast aggressive arm stroke, delivery starts slow and builds to a quick separation, good athleticism down slope with some cross-body stride, lands with strength and maintains stability for balance and leverage, fastball (T86) crisp and rounding into season form when velocity will jump a tick or two, lively through the zone with some riding arm side action at times, curveball (68-70 mph) with tight spin and sharp/quick downward 11/5 action and is capable of being an effective out-pitch, change-up is firm (74-77 mph) at times, flashed some down action on a couple of changes, seemed to rush it a bit in the stretch. Good early season form and should perform as one of the top 2020 pitchers in the region. Good athlete, including starting QB on section/regional/state winning football team.
