PBR California State Player of the Year: Cameron Repetti

PBR California Staff

The 2019 spring high school season in California generated some incredible individual moments and performances throughout all corners of the state. As the spring high school season comes to a close, Prep Baseball Report is excited to announce one player who emerged ahead of the competition at all levels in the state of California. This player has been selected not only for their outstanding statistical numbers, but also for their overall effect on their high school program.

Cameron Repetti

Repetti saved his best for his last season in a Cypress uniform. The senior righty was dominant for most of the season and was lights out down the stretch when needed the most. Repetti was 6-0 with a no decision in his last seven starts including the postseason where he went 4-0 with a save and wins in the quarterfinals, semifinals and the title game. He gave up three earned runs in five postseason appearances spanning 21 innings pitched. He was arguably his most dominant self in his final start of the season.

In the CIF-SS Division I Finals he was electric going 5.1 while scattering three hits and punching out six Harvard Westlake batters and getting an even mix of flyouts and groundouts. He was able to keep hitters off balance and worked all areas of the plate creating uncomfortable at-bats for hitters. That isn't something new for Repetti as he's not going to overpower many of the top hitters with his low-90's fastball, so he relies on his ability to throw strikes with multiple pitches throwing 15-of-19 first pitch strikes in the championship game.

In the semifinal game against highly ranked La Mirada, Repetti closed things out going the final 4.2 innings striking out five and allowing only one hit and walking one. It was a gutsy 55 pitch performance that earned his team a trip to the CIF-SS Division I Finals.

Coming into the season there was some debate by observers as to whether Repetti will pitch or play the field and hit at Cal State Fullerton. Repetti had shown the ability to drive balls into the gaps with some natural power, and while he's not a burner on the bases, he's absolutely one of the smarter players you'll see on the diamond. This season at the plate Repetti contributed in a big way to the Centurions title run. He slashed .371/.452/.562, 27 R, 26 RBI, 2 HR, 8 2B, 3 3B, 15 BB, 7K en route to the CIF-SS title. Every time Repetti was a in clutch situation for Cypress he delivered more often than not.
