CIF-SS PLAYOFFS PREVIEW PODCAST

SOUTH BAY LOS ANGELES, CA. - It was the last week of the regular season and there were a couple of big game that had serious league title implications throughout the South Bay. I went to four games last week, one at Torrance, Redondo, Mira Costa and to LMU to catch Palos Verdes vs Peninsula.

I started off watching West vs Torrance where Neil Feist dominated throwing a complete game, getting his team one step closer to a Pioneer League title. I then headed to Redondo to see Christian Bodlovich vs Drew Dalquist in what was expect to be the Game of the Year in the South Bay.  The anticipated pitchers duel was anything but as the game turned into an absolute slugfest that Redondo won 14-12 forcing a winner-take-all game for the Bay League title on Thursday. In that one, Jared Karros stole the show throwing a complete game. Then to LMU to see Palos Verdes vs Peninsula. Palos Verdes won and finished in third place to secure a playoff bid.

Needless to say it was a great week on prep baseball around the South Bay. It was  a whole lot of fun and didn’t lack drama, it was also another opportunity for the area to display it’s deeply talented pool of baseball players.

TOP PERFORMERS

2020 C (University of San Francisco) Tyler Imbach has a long athletic frame, with lots of physical projection. He has a smooth left-handed swing with a pull hitting gap-to-gap hitting approach. Flashes power with a loud bat. He shows quick bat speed able to turn on the inside pitch which was very apparent Thursday. Behind the plate he registered a pop time of 2.0-2.1 and threw out one runner. Does a nice job keeping the running game at bay - has thrown out 11 would-be base stealers on the season. He shows quick footwork and quick hands. He is a wall behind the plate and handles the staff. He recorded one hit on Thursday, a tape measure home-run. Turned on a low and inside pitch and put it over the right field fence.

2019 RHP (University of Arizona) Drew Dalquist has long limbs, lean athletic body and wiry strength and physical projection. Dalquist pitched 5 innings on Tuesday. Fastball was consistent 90-93, with some 89 mph and topping at 94 MPH.....
