PODCAST: SoCal ProCase Recap
ORANGE, CA. - The 2019 MLB Draft completed on June 5th, and on June 8th, it was time to turn our attention to the 2020 class at the SoCal ProCase. A select group of players were chosen to participate in this exclusive event geared toward high level collegiate and draft prospects.
Players were put through a pro-style workout - 60 yard dash, exit velocity testing, BP, defensive workout - before participating in scout ball format game that saw eight pitchers toe the rubber. PBR California scouting staff collected various stats/data during the workout and game which can be found HERE.
Be sure to click on the highlighted player to see more video and notes from previous viewings at PBR Events and during the Spring Season.
In this edition of the SoCal ProCase Spotlight we highlight:
OF ISAIAH GREENE (CORONA HS)
2020 OF Isaiah Greene is recently currently uncommitted and listed at 6-foot-1, 180lbs. Proportional, medium/large, athletic, strong projectable frame with ample room to pack on good weight. Sloped, muscular shoulders, long arms, barrel chest, v-shaped back, down to a high, slim waist and backside with long, toned legs. Greene fits the mold of a MLB draft pick, and looks like a prototypical professional outfielder. He has made significant physical gains since we first laid eyes on him three years ago and each year his tools and body are improving at a clip that would indicate that progress will still continue for years to come.
Greene has a classic left handed swing and shows the willingness and ability to work the entire field. The ball jumps off the bat in a way that makes your head turn when he squares it up. Greene flashes raw power and it’s projectable. I have seen him hit home runs on occasion, however the development of his power tool will come as he matures adds more strength; until then you will see high singles and doubles totals. His ability to demonstrate and wait for his pitch will determine his overall success as a feared offensive producer.
Defensively, Greene’s athleticism and speed plays up. He exhibits tremendous instincts, routes, and range in the outfield off batted balls and runs well enough to handle centerfield. Greene displays an average, accurate arm with good carry and has a knack for getting rid of the ball quickly and one hopping the mitt consistently.
The run tool is elite and is improving year-to-year. Greene clocked a laser timed 6.73 60-yard dash at the ProCase, and more recently, a 6.60 hand time sixty at the Brewers Area Code Team tryouts in Santa Barbara last week. Greene has quickness and some twitchiness, but is more of a powerful runner underway with good home-to-first, first-to-third, and second-to-home times. He shows excellent awareness and feel for balls in the dirt and will make you pay for defensive mistakes.
Greene has upside potential, tools, and a skill-set that is coveted by MLB organizations and D1 colleges alike. He is a Brewers Area Code Underclass Team alum that is looking to be part of the upper-class squad this year. This will serve him well as you can assume that the Brewers believe in his ability enough that he’ll get to the next level and thrive. Greene plays at a program (Corona HS) where development and winning are part of the culture; and he will be thrust into a leadership role and play a big part in their success for the talented, young Panthers roster next spring. Soon after that he’ll know which direction his future will take him.
