Q&A with BYU Commit, Matt Hansen

Chance Ubel
Intern, PBR Colorado

Matt Hansen, an Air Academy and Slammers shortstop product, took the time to talk with the PBR Colorado staff about his recruitment journey and how he was able to get on coaches' radars. Back in November, Matt announced his commitment to Brigham Young University (BYU), we asked Matt how he was able to connect with them and why he ending up choosing BYU.

Matt also offers his advice to younger athletes who are going through the recruitment process and what PBR has meant to him during his time playing baseball in Colorado.

Q&A with Matt Hansen

Q: What was the recruiting trail like for you? How did you get on the college coaches radars?

Hansen: The recruiting process started freshman fall and it felt way longer than it was but with getting to know colleges and coaches around the country it made me open my eyes to more ideas. I got on coaches' radars after doing a showcase. Then, they started flowing into games to watch. They all enjoyed the hard work and the way I carried myself on the field no matter the situation.

Q: You are committed to Brigham Young University, how did you connect with them and what was it like talking to their staff? Did you visit, and if so how was that?

Hansen: I connected with BYU early this past summer when they first started their recruiting for the Big 12 in my class. Their staff is amazing, I really like the way they approached me and the connections I have made with their people. I have not visited quite yet but I’m planning on it soon.

Q: What made you choose Brigham Young University over other schools that gave you offers?

Hansen: I chose BYU over other schools because the environment I will be getting to be in and the people there, I really just couldn’t see any other school on my radar topping what they had for me. Also, their facilities are just amazing.

Q: Now that you have finished your recruitment process, do you have any advise for young 25’s or even ‘26s who have just started this process?

Hansen: My advice for the class of 25’ and 26’ starting their recruiting process is just to be open to any schools and see what environment you could really see yourself in. Baseball is a huge reason you're going there but you shouldn’t base your choice just on that part.

Q: In regards to PBR, what have you found to be the most beneficial?

HansenIn regards to PBR what I found most beneficial was just starting to get my exposure started.

Q: Lastly, out of all the PBR events you have attended in your career, what has PBR meant to you during your time playing baseball in Colorado?

HansenWhen I was growing up PBR was really meaningful to me especially as a Colorado player because it was a big platform for exposure in this state.
