ROSEVILLE, CA - Anticipation and expectations for this loaded event were quickly validated with impressive TrackMan and Blast Motion metrics. Many players saw their metrics make improvements while newcomers discovered them for the first time and the value that they hold.  However, the annual Preseason All-State event isn't complete without a detailed scouting report from the Prep Baseball Report scouting staff. In this addition we dive into Upperclass Catchers.

Drake Bicknell, Jesuit, 2021
Body: 5-11, 180-pounds. Longer torso frame with space for projection. Lower half-strength present
Hit: RHH. Even, wider base keeping hands high. Small hand load with front foot lift; utilizes kick-back to allow hips to get through. Consistent in swing process and repeatable. Shorthand path allows the barrel to get to consistent contact out front; slight lift in path. Regularly found the barrel (92.43 Average Exit Velo) with the ball having carry to the pullside. 75.4 Max Bat Speed, 21.5 Max Hand Speed, 90.9% Hard Hit Percentage
Power: 97.20 mph exit velocity.
Arm: RH. C - 76.00 mph. Arm action was easy and quick to get rid of the ball; ball consistently on the bag.
Defense: 1.96-2.01 pop times. Transfers were very good; Receiving was consistently solid and able to handle all types of pitches working from the bottom of zone up. Absorbed blocks well and was able to bounce from the crouch.
Run: 7.32 runner in the 60.

Logan Mock, Granada, 2021
Body: 5-11, 180-pounds. Square frame, even build with room to continue to add strength to the frame
Hit: RHH. Tall stance with hands lower and relaxed elbows; hands lift with top working back as lower half works forward on slight foot lift.  Handsy swing with a level path through the zone; some reciprocal actions in finish allowing the barrel to stay with the body on the turn. Easy to create line drives to his pullside and found barrel well. 83.4% Line Drives/Fly Ball Percent, 58.3% Hard Hit, 76.6 Max Bat Speed, 23.2 Max Hand Speed.
Power: 94.20 mph exit velocity
Arm: RH. C - 76.00 mph. Compact action with release from the ear; the ball was on the bag.
Defense: 1.96-2.01 pop times. Body consistently in a good spot to receive/block; recovered well on blocks. Handled pitches well, making slight adjustments to keep balls strikes
Run: 7.69 runner in the 60.

Andrew Sloan, Jesuit, 2022
Body: 5-11, 190-pounds. Wider shoulders, showing good strength currently with potential for more
Hit: RHH. Very high hand setup gets into hinge holding it through the forward move as hands pull to shoulder. Stays in backside well allowing the body to rotate when needed. Barrel sticks with his body as he rotates finishing upwards loose and free. Worked gap-to-gap with easy carry and found the barrel well. 90.79 Avg Exit Velo, 72.7% Hard Hit, 23.1 gs Max Rotational Acceleration, 72 Max Bat Speed, 22.3 Max Handspeed, 70% On Pane Efficiency
Power: 97.20 mph exit velocity.
Arm: RH. C - 81.00 mph. Arm strength present and was able to get to the ear and release it quickly. Accurate throws help enable infielders to make a play.
Defense: 1.99-2.05 pop times. Good footwork towards second base and the agility shows up in block/recovering. Received well and has the athleticism to be strong behind the plate. Handled top velo arms well.
Run: 6.80 runner in the 60.

Karson Bowen, Orange Lutheran, 2022
Positional Profile: C/OF
Body: 5-11, 195-pounds. Compact frame, wide shoulders, powerfully built. Strength and muscle added since last viewing.
Hit: RHH. Narrow with hands tight having lower half squatted on load; really engages lower half and ability to get hips to start/stop the swing quickly.  Easy rotation with hands finishing upwards through contact; reciprocal actions between lower/upper halves. Easy lift in the barrel path working both gaps and having ball carry. 88.26 Avg Exit Velo, 87.6% Line Drive/Fly Ball %, 76.4 Max Bat Speed, 15.3 gs Max Rotational Acceleration, 22.3 Max Hand Speed, 66% On Plane %
Power: 98.30 mph exit velocity. Current gap-to-gap. At times exhibits over the fence power potential.
Arm: RH. C - 82.00 mph. Explosive release and easy arm strength that has zip and carry.
Defense: 1.91-1.99 pop times. Very fast exchanges getting it to the bag consistently. Very good receiving skills handling some of the top velocity with ease. Utilized his body well to absorb balls on blocks.
Run: 7.20 runner in the 60.

Jacob Cullen, Vista del Lago, 2021
Body: 6-2, 175-pounds. Athletic shape, long and lean with space for projection
Hit: RHH. Even stance, hands sit on the back shoulder; rocks back with changes in load between toe-tap and foot hover dependent on timing. Hands work down to the ball with quick upwards path; when on time showed the ability to create lift to the pullside and flashed power that way as well. 72 Max Bat speed, 70% On Plane Efficiency
Power: 94.60 mph exit velocity.
Arm: RH. C - 79.00 mph. Longer action showed the ability to flick it out
Defense: 1.99-2.05 pop times. Small gains in the ground when making pops. Athleticism shows up in blocking/recovery of baseball
Run: 7.29 runner in the 60.

Ben Lee, St. Monica Catholic, 2022
Body: 5-10, 175-pounds. Length in the lower half with high waist and strength present in the chest/shoulders.
Hit: RHH. Narrow, tall stance with hands away from back shoulder to start; tightens hands back and up on the simple forward step. Sinks into back hip a bit before rotating staying on the backside at finish.  Hands stay close on turns with down and through actions; maintains barrel well finishing up with one hand. The ball carried to the pullside gaps due to very good rotations and hand speed. 28.6 gs Max Rotational Acceleration, 73.3 Max Bat Speed, 22.7 Max Handspeed, 90% Fly Ball/Line Drive %, 73% On Plane Efficiency.
Power: 96.00 mph exit velocity.
Arm: RH. C - 76.00 mph. Compact swing with the high elbow; balls had tail/run when going to 2nd.
Defense: 1.99-2.07 pop times. Wider base and takes glove to hand consistently; rebounded well to blocks and showed athleticism behind the plate.
Run: 7.08 runner in the 60.

Gavin Ducker, Palma, 2022
Body: 6-2, 205-pounds. Square shoulders, tight waist, present strength, and the ability for strength to translate to next level.
Hit: RHH. Balanced stance, slight bend in knees, and high hands/high back elbow. Engaged hinge early utilizing foot lift to stay on the backside with the forward move; hands stay high on the move being connected on the swing.  Compact swing, down and through with high finish. Ball carries and jumps to the pullside; best when he keeps direction towards middle of the diamond. Rotates easily and produces good force on frontside. 22.9 gs Max Rotational Acceleration, 76.7 Max Batspeed, 22.4 Max Handspeed, 62.5 Hard Hit %, 58% On Plane Efficiency.
Power: 96.80 mph exit velocity.
Arm: RH. C - 78.00 mph. Strength in arm shows with fluid swing and speed out front.
Defense: 1.99-2.03 pop times. Efficient in his transfers and ability to use body to block pitches. Receiving showed flashes handling velocity; can continue working for breaking balls. Bounces out of crouch.
Run: 7.41 runner in the 60.
